The all-new, never published prequel to the Werewolves of Montana series. Enter the sensual world of the Lupine, where the burning drive to mate claims all…

Her alpha father punished them for their illicit love and Kara fled their home with her brother Aiden to start a new life in Montana. Left scarred by her father’s ugly cruelties, she is certain no Lupine can ever love her. When Aiden faces financial ruin, she risks going back to find her family’s cache of gold and is captured by Ryder.

Former Omega werewolf Ryder Carrington spent ten hellish years living under the thumb of his cruel, violent leader. After killing his alpha in a Challenge to save the pack, Ryder now rules, but needs a mate to bring peace to his fractured people. Kara is his and his alone. ~ 3 Mating Heat Stars ~

The Mating Heat is a prequel to the Werewolves of Montana series. This is a nice quick read about overcoming scars from the past and embracing love and hope for the future. Insta-love storyline. We get a taste of the world of the Werewolves of Montana, but the world is not fully developed.

Both Ryder and Kara as well as the whole pack where damaged by their previous Alpha. They are friends who turn into lovers. Ryder has always know from that one kiss that he shared with Kara that she was special and no other would do. In the story Ryder goes back and forth between wanting to take Kara and wanting to woo her. As the story progressed he saw how much damage her father did to her emotional/physically, that the only thing he forced her to do was face the pack with her damaged face, so that she could see that the pack accepts her as she is and that she is and always will be the heart of the pack (the glue that kept them going).

The Mating Heat is part of the Dark and Deadly box set. It was a nice quick PNR read into the Werewolves of Montana series. I enjoyed it.
