Hello and Welcome all!

Today I’m very lucky to be interviewing R.L. Kenderson author of Forbidden Blood.

Hello, R.L. Kenderson, thank you for agreeing to this interview. Tell us a little about yourself and your background?

Thank you for having us! Well, we are two best friends (Renae and Lara) who love to read (and watch TV). We both work in the medical field—something very different from writing. One day, on a road trip, we started talking about what we would write about if we were authors. It kind of spiraled from there, and now here we are.

What do you do when you are not writing?

Renae is a part time sonographer (a.k.a. ultrasound tech) on the weekends and a stay-at-home mom during the week. Lara is a full-time pharmacist. Other than work, we are both big home-bodies and are favorite things to do are read, watch TV, go out to eat, spend time with family, and hang out with each other, of course.

How did you choose the genre you write in?

That is a very good question because years ago before we started writing our first book, one of us said we would never do paranormal romance or a series because you have to build a whole world for your characters with rules and you have to keep it all straight. Yet, here we are with book one in a paranormal romance series.

Mainly it came about because we both love paranormal romance books, with vampires in particular. However, we like when vampires are alive, the ones who are born not dead. And it’s somewhat hard to find book series about vampires like that. Also, Renae really wanted to read about vampires and something else we can’t mention because it’s a spoiler. After searching through many books, we couldn’t find exactly what we were looking for, so we thought, why not write our own?

So, what have you written?

Together we have written Forbidden Blood, and the sequel, Forbidden Heat. We have18757302 the third one started, Forbidden Temptation, and also a contemporary motorcycle club romance. Although, we’re a little intimidated to publish the MC book. There are so many great MC series out there, and we feel like we might not live up to comparison.

We also have a short story that we wrote a couple of years ago for a contest. We haven’t published it as of yet. Who knows, maybe one day we’ll put it on Goodreads as a free read.

Have you written a book you love that you have not been able to get published?

Haha. Just the one we’re getting ready to release. It’s kind of our baby.

Can you tell us about your upcoming book?

It’s about vampire princess, Naya, who basically just wants to be normal. Her parents are in the process of selecting her future mate, which she isn’t happy about but has come to accept, nonetheless. But then she meets Vaughn at a human nightclub, and ends up leaving with him. In our world, vampires aren’t supposed to feed from humans, but in the midst of her and Vaughn’s passion, she drinks his blood, hence the name Forbidden Blood. What neither Naya nor Vaughn know is that this night and her actions will change their lives forever.

Give us an insight into your main character. What does he/she do that is so special?

One thing that we liked about Naya is that even though she is next in line to be queen, she is very down-to-earth. Her best friend is human, she volunteers, and she doesn’t flaunt her status. Yet, even though she doesn’t want to be queen and sees it more of a burden than a privilege, she doesn’t neglect her responsibilities. Not entirely anyway. Basically, she’s a good egg with a lot on her plate.

What was your favorite chapter (or part) to write and why?

I think we can both agree that one of our favorite chapters in Forbidden Blood is chapter fourteen. It is told from Naya’s cousin’s POV, and even though she is not one of the main characters, she plays an important role in the story, and in this chapter something special happens to her.

What project are you working on now?

Besides working really hard to get Forbidden Blood ready, we are currently working on finishing up our revisions for Forbidden Heat so that we can get it our editor by the end of August. We plan to release it in December, but you never know…it might be sooner.

Is there anything that you would like to say to your readers and fans?

Well, we don’t have many as of yet since we are newbies on the scene, but we know a lot of people are wondering about Kenzie and Sawyer. We originally planned to have their story be the second book, but our characters had something else in mind. So, their story is the third book, Forbidden Temptation, and while we may not be very far into it, it has been started.

R.L. Kenderson is two best friends writing under one name. Renae wrote her first poem in third grade and learned she might have a knack for this writing thing, while Lara remembers sneaking her grandmother’s Harlequin novels when she was probably too young to be reading them and always knew she wanted to write her own.

When they met in college, they bonded over their love of reading and the TV show Charmed. What really spiced up their friendship was when Lara introduced Renae to romance novels, and when they discovered their first vampire romance they knew there would always be a special place in their hearts for paranormal romance. After being unable to find certains storylines and characteristics they wanted to read about in the hundreds of books they consumed, they decided to write their own.

They both live in the Minneapolis/St. Paul area where they’re a sonographer/stay-at-home mom and pharmacist by day and sexy author by night.

EXCERPT

As Naya moved closer, she found a small opening near the corner of the bar. When she reached the counter, it was obvious as to why the space had been empty. Next to her sat a disheveled man perched on a stool. He stank of alcohol and smelled like he was about a week overdue for a shower. He ogled her, making her uncomfortable, but people were swarming the bar around her, so she was unable to put the space she wanted between herself and the dirty drunk.

However, she was sick of people forcing her to do things she didn’t want to do, whether it was consciously or subconsciously on their part. She was going to get a drink, head to the floor, and dance until she started to have fun, even if it killed her. She would not let anyone ruin her plans.

“Hey, baby,” he said as he scooted closer, looking her up and down and almost falling over in the process. Apparently, his intoxicated state wasn’t going to stop him because he next slurred, “You’re hot,” as he swayed into her personal bubble.

She’d had to hold her breath when he spoke since his teeth hadn’t met a toothbrush in some time.

Naya faced forward and ignored him, hoping he would get the hint. While situations like this didn’t happen often, she had learned that silence was sometimes the best policy.

He leaned in closer. “I said, hey, baby.”

This time, she gave him a stern look. “Sir, I am not your baby.” She turned away, praying the straightforward approach would work.

“Wanna come home with me tonight? We can grab a six-pack of beer and screw.”

She gasped. “No!” Gross.

“What? You don’t like beer?” He laughed at his joke and extended his hand to touch her.

She jerked her arm away and lifted her chin with confidence. “I’m here with someone.”

If only it were true.

He called her bluff. “I don’t see anyone with you. Why are you playing hard to get, dollface?”

She groaned. Why won’t he go away?

She took a small step back, irritated that she had to be the one to leave, when she sensed a presence behind her. Even though she couldn’t see the person, she knew immediately that he was big, male, and powerful. But she wasn’t afraid. In fact, a calm sense of relief came over her, and she instinctively recognized he was the one who had been watching her. The deep feelings he’d first stirred in her now flared to life. Anticipation, excitement, arousal, and exhilaration fused into one. Her head was spinning as her nostrils flared, and the lonely place between her legs blazed to life.

From the mirror behind the bar, she caught a glimpse of a virile male before he slipped his arm around her waist and pulled her flush against him, engulfing her body with his own. He kissed her neck and lingered there as if he had the right.

She tilted her head and let him.
