 Hello and Welcome all!

SPuringtonToday I’m very lucky to be interviewing Sky Purington author of Vow of the Highlander (The MacLoman Seres Next Generation #2).

Hello Sky, thank you for agreeing to this interview. Tell us a little about yourself and your background?

Thanks so much for hosting me today! Though first published in 2007, I’ve been writing as long as I can remember. To date, I’ve written five series, four of them interconnected, that span a total of sixteen stories. My passion is time-travel fantasy romance with a twist of paranormal. While I write about vampires and even werewolves, the bulk of my work revolves around medieval Highlanders.

Do you read much and if so who are your favorite authors.

Lately, I’ve been spending far more time writing than reading though I’m a huge reader when I have the opportunity. I have so many favorite authors. At the top of the list? Lisa Kleypas and Christine Feehan.

For your own reading, do you prefer ebooks or traditional paper/hard back books?

I’m a total ebook girl now mostly because I spend so much time on electronic devices. Nowadays, I mainly read via my cell phone. However, I’ll always be a fan of print books. The weight of them…the smell…love it!

How do you relax?

Believe it or not, when I’m writing. There’s nothing quite like spending time with my characters and learning more about them.

How did you choose the genre you write in? Why a time travel romance?

I’m a huge fan of history and have always wondered what it would be like to travel back in time. I like the dynamics and challenge of taking a character from one era and plunking them into another. Granted, a great deal of research is involved but that’s half the thrill.

Are there any inherent problems that you face when you are writing a time travel series?

I would have to say keeping focused on maintaining both the internal and external dialogues for various characters. Several of my books take the reader between modern day New Hampshire and medieval Scotland. Typically but not always the heroine is traveling back in time to meet the hero. For example, my heroine wouldn’t say or even think the word, “aye” nor would the hero think or say the word “yes.” She would say, “maybe,” where he would say, “mayhap.” And on and on it goes.

Do you have any preference for where you like to send your heroes and heroines either to modern times or back into medieval times?

I love to do both! For the most part the heroine travels back to medieval times but in several books I’ve brought the Highlander forward to modern day. I have a lot of fun with those scenes.

What would you say to get readers to try out a time travel tale?

I would say there’s nothing like escaping for a bit. Go hang out in a castle, learn to swing a sword, try some bannock, and revel in the sound of a sexy brogue or even Gaelic. Then return to modern day conveniences if you like. Enjoy the comparisons of two time periods!

So, what have you written?

 Excerpt

Only five steps into the courtyard and already one clansman was circling her, a flirtatious grin on his handsome face. Somehow it was all infectious and as determined as she was to stay by McKayla’s side, she soon found herself in the arms of first one then another Scotsman. Some were her height, many taller, but none as tall as the man who she eventually ended up dancing with.

“I hear I had you worried.”

It took everything she had to look into Bradon’s deep, green eyes. She hated how aware of him she’d become. How her heart seemed to clench a little too tightly. “Don’t overthink it.”

“Ah, so I did have you worried. ‘Tis good,” he said softly. “Every lad should have a wee bonnie lass or two to welcome him home after a good battle.”

She arched a brow and found it easier and easier by the moment to look at him. “Or two?”

“Or three even,” he replied easily, an irritating grin on his face.

“What happened when you left us?” she asked, determined to steer the conversation away from him thinking her an easy target.

“They followed,” he said as if she should have that figured out. “And I evaded.” He shrugged. “Then I killed a few.”

“Why are you not covered in blood then?”

“Because I’m not brutal.” His eyes dropped to her lips before returning to her eyes. “‘Tis not a difficult thing to find water and bathe, lass.”

He did seem rather fresh…in more ways than one. “So will the MacLeod’s be showing up at the MacLomain’s doorstep once more?”

His hand slid lower down her back and he pulled her closer. “Nay, lassie. ‘Tis time to relax.”

She pushed him back a fraction and frowned. “I can relax just fine without being up against you.”

“Can you then?” But he didn’t let her go too far. His hand cupped the side of her neck. “The muscles here.” His thumb ran around the back, giving her shivers. “As well as the muscles here.” He pressed slightly. “They are like stone.”

Her eyes dropped to his strong neck then the wide chest covered by his tunic. Being close to this man was a very bad idea. But for the life of her she couldn’t pull away.
