Chloe can “talk” to animals…so why can she hear the thoughts of this hot, green-eyed man? Abandoned by her mother and raised by a father who’d given up on life, Chloe doesn’t let anyone get close. Lucky for her, she can communicate with animals–telepathically. Her long hours at the animal shelter help her cope with the stress, and the animals are the only people she needs. But when a suspected dog-fighting ring comes to her attention, Chloe decides to do a little spying. And in her rush to win the dogs’ trust, she almost gets herself caught. Until a sexy stranger intervenes, and she finds she can overhear his thoughts. She’s never been able to hear people, and this man’s about as sexy as she’s ever seen. It’s more than intellectual curiosity that drives her to discover his secret: he’s a jaguar shape-shifter, and the presence of this cat among the dogs might be a bit too much to handle. But the animal attraction is just too hot to resist, and the passion between them makes both the sparks–and the fur–fly.

~ 2 Hiss Stars ~

To Hiss or to Kiss is book one in Katya Armock’s Hidden Lines series. I have to admit I bought this on a whim after reading a really great excerpt, plus the cover is hot and who can beat a $.99c deal. I had to push myself to finish. Sad really as this had a great concept.

Chloe our heroine has a weird ability to communicate with animals. Ok this sounds cool and it is, but then close to the end she ends up being able to talk to a dead dog. Ok so weird! As for Chloe this girl has so many issues. She avoids everything, selfish, non-trusting, self-loathing, do I need to go on. I could not connect to her and did not like her. She is one of those people we either love, hate or ignore.

Jorge our Scottish jaguar shifter what can I say except he was lacking as an Alpha male. I never felt that love I get from the Alpha males in books. He came off not dominant and I like mine to be dominant especially if they are shifters. We don’t learn much about him until 10% from the end when he finally talks about his family thou it still is not much. I could never figure out why Jorge is with Chloe or why he was trying so hard to get past her self made defenses. It’s never clear explained as to why he is so attracted to Chloe.

As the story goes the writing is POV from Chloe’s point of view. I was not impressed and the execution was not done well. I usually like POV’s, but it takes a really good author to pull this off and this one was lacking that special flow. The cover is smolderingly hot, but the story is lukewarm and lacking. Very little chemistry between Jorge and Chloe. The sex scenes are not very spicy and with the chemistry lacking it feel flat in this department. The ending was abrupt and did not feel like a real ending.

This book can be hit or miss depending on you.
