Urban Fantasy – Shapeshifters

Source: Bought

No matter how much the paranormal politics of Atlanta change, one thing always remains the same: if there’s trouble, Kate Daniels will be in the middle of it…

As the mate of the Beast Lord, Curran, former mercenary Kate Daniels has more responsibilities than it seems possible to juggle. Not only is she still struggling to keep her investigative business afloat, she must now deal with the affairs of the pack, including preparing her people for attack from Roland, a cruel ancient being with god-like powers. Since Kate’s connection to Roland has come out into the open, no one is safe—especially those closest to Kate.

As Roland’s long shadow looms ever nearer, Kate is called to attend the Conclave, a gathering of the leaders from the various supernatural factions in Atlanta. When one of the Masters of the Dead is found murdered there, apparently at the hands of a shapeshifter, Kate is given only twenty-four hours to hunt down the killer. And this time, if she fails, she’ll find herself embroiled in a war which could destroy everything she holds dear.

(NO SPOILERS)

Kate Daniels is by far my favorite urban fantasy series and I wait for each new volume with such anticipation. By the time I finish any book in the Kate Daniels series I want to start the series all over again.

I knew from the first sentences I was going to love this book. The writing is FANTASTIC pulling the reader into the world and characters. I love reading and watching the characters grow, interact, and the world building is AMAZING. I have been waiting since the begging of the series for the meeting between Kate and her father. Each novel has prepared us little by little for the big day and I was SURPRISED by the turn of events and yet I’m curious to see what the next few novels will present us. I have to say I enjoyed the rendition of who is who at the begging of the book, before we even start the story, we get a little re-cap of the characters we have come to know and love. The journal entry by Barabas was fantastic. As the store progresses we get more things reveled, more danger, loads of action, tension and humor. It was sad to see Curran gone from most of the book, but it was great watching Kate stand on her own. When he does come home we get one hot sexy love scene that made me want to say bye bye Kate I’m taking your man. As for our secondary characters we get to meet a few new ones and revisit with old ones. The hardest part for me as a reader/fan of these books is when one dies off, whether they are a long time character or one we just meet in the book, it is always emotional to see them go. The writing duo-team does a fantastic job getting us hooked on all the characters that when one goes, I feel for everyone who lost their friend, partner, lover, mate ect… As endings go I was rendered speechless. I did not see that twist of events coming.

So yes I am waiting with great anticipation to see what happens next. Never have I read a series that is more about the journey than the actual destination. Urban Fantasy does not get any better then Kate Daniels and I highly recommend picking this series up.

  1. I agree with you. This is my favorite UF series as well. The world that this team has built is just amazing to me. They also have such fantastic characters that you just can’t help but fall in love with all of them. Great review.

    • I am so glad this UF series landed on my raider. I just LOVE it and can’t get enough. The team does such an amazing job making me love the world and characters that I get so emotionally involved. It’s that way with all their series works. Thank’s for stoping in Melanie. I wanted to do this book justice in my review and I hate when people write spoilers. I so try to avoid doing that. Oh course I did not read any reviews on this one until I was done reading. ^_^

  2. Ack! I need to get in gear and read this one like yesterday! I can’t believe I’m not all caught up in this series! Glad to hear it was fab though really with them…given, right? 😀

    • Ya really.. I don’t think I can ever be disappointed in the team. I had this on my nook the day it came out. I avoid reading any review’s because I hate getting spoilers, so I try hard to not do them in my reviews. I new I would love it! I was not ready yet to pick it up until now and of course I feel like reading the whole series all over again.
