Hello and Welcome Everyone!
Today I am very lucky to be interviewing Molle McGregor author of Shadow’s Pleasure.
Hello Molle, thank you for joining us today.
Do you get to write full time or do you also have a day job?
I left my full time job five years ago when my oldest son was born, planning to return after my maternity leave. Instead, I wrote the first book in the Shadow Warder series and things took off from there. I’m so fortunate to be able to be both a full time writer and a stay at home mom.
What do you do when you are not writing?
My family would tell you that if I have free time, I’m reading. But I also love cooking, being outdoors, gaming, and hanging out with my friends and family.
What is your favorite quote? Why?
“When asked, “How do you write?” I invariably answer, “One word at a time,” –Stephen King
I mainly love this as a writer, but it applies to almost everything in life. Whenever I get overwhelmed, I remind myself of these words and I instantly feel like I can do anything.
What are you reading right now?
Confessions of a Reformed Tomcat by Daisy Prescott. I just discovered her books in a contemporary romance anthology and I fell in love.
This could be a very long list, so I’ll try to keep it short. When I was younger the two authors/books that jump out at me as favorites are Stephen King and Madeline L’Engle’s Wrinkle in Time series. Stephen King was definitely not appropriate reading at that age, but my parents weren’t much into books and didn’t realize what I was up to. He was responsible for more than a few sleepless nights.
Shadow’s Pleasure picks up a few minutes after the end of Shadow’s Awakening, Book One in the Shadow Warder series. It’s the story of Sorcha, a Shadow empath, and Kiernan, a Warder soldier, and their quest to rescue three missing Shadows.
Give us an insight into your main character. What does he/she do that is so special?
I loved writing both Sorcha and Kiernan. Sorcha is a strong woman with several unique skills. She’s an empath, able to read emotions, but she also has the ability to use her empathy to track people. When her friends go missing, she wants to help, but she’s been trapped for almost a decade in the Shadow Sanctuary. She’s determined to gain her freedom and rescue her friends. Kiernan is a Warder soldier who agrees to take her out into the world to find the missing Shadows. He was so much fun for me. He’s a skilled soldier, but he also has an irreverent sense of humor and some interestingly sketchy connections. Both Kiernan and Sorcha are stubborn and passionate. I didn’t need to make up their fireworks – I just put them on the page and they took care of the sparks on their own.
What was your favorite chapter (or part) to write and why?
My favorite chapter was Kiernan and Sorcha’s trip to the club. They’d been flirting, but this is the first time they do something about it. The atmosphere is so sensual, and the chapter also introduces a new type of character to the Shadow Warder world. Since there are some spoilers, I don’t want to give too much away, but here’s a little teaser from this part:
“I plan to,” he whispered against her lips.
“Plan to what?” Sorcha whispered back. Kiernan’s lips, warm and soft as silk, slid over hers. A whimper caught at the back of her throat.
“Plan to take care,” Kiernan said, lips brushing hers as he spoke. “You belong to me.”
If you could have given your characters one piece of advice before the opening pages of Shadow’s Pleasure, what would it be and why?
What a great question! Not that they would have listened to me…but I would have told Kiernan and Sorcha to forget about what they think they want and realize what they have right in front of them. Sometimes our ideas about what we think we should do get in the way of what we really need. Then again, I had a lot of fun watching them stumble around each other, Sorcha especially. As an empath, she’s so focused on other’s feelings that she’s not always in touch with her own emotions.
It has been a pleasure having you visit Angel’s Guilty Pleasures today. I have one last question. What is next for you?
Thank you so much for having me! Right now I’m almost finished with the next book in the Shadow Warder series, Shadow’s Discovery. I hope to have it out this summer. Shadow’s Discovery takes place in the same time frame as much of Shadow’s Pleasure and includes a lot of the characters readers met in the previous books. After that, I’ll be working on more Shadow Warder books.
