Who is Ashlynne Laynne?

 

I juggle many hats in my life—wife, mother, full time worker and part-time writer. Making these pieces fit my daily schedule is sometimes difficult. I am no more one than the other, and all of the parts complete the complex person that is Ashlynne. I wake, Monday through Thursday, at 3:15 am to make it to work by 5:30. It’s a hellish and grueling schedule that I’ve endured for the last fifteen years. By the time night falls, I’m drained from the day’s events and my eyes are sore. But I do it over and over again until the days stretch into weeks, months, and years.

Thank Goodness for patient husbands who take care of children, cook, clean and still find time to shoot me words of encouragement. My husband, Mark, is a Godsend. He works, too, but still manages to keep the house in order so that I can follow my dream and write. Writing takes up inordinate amounts of my time. Even when I’m doing other things, I’m still thinking about different scenarios, plot points, and dialogue for my stories.

I start each project with an outline that rarely holds up. My characters are stubborn—much like their creator—and usually block any attempt at controlling them. I tend to write three or four chapters in the beginning of a book, skip to write the end, and then fill in the middle. Strangely enough, I’ve already written the end of my first series and I know what the last paragraph will be. It’s weird, I know, but it helps me to have a stopping point. I’m a rebel who refuses to conform. Tell me there’s only one way to do something, and my mission becomes proving you wrong.

I’m passionate about many things, but the cause nearest and dearest to my heart is autism awareness and research. My son has autism and I watch him brave the world every day—a world that makes no sense to me most days and surely makes less to him. Even with all of the deck stacked against him, he continues to prove doctors wrong. Much like his “mommy,” tell him it can’t be done and he’ll break through the wall to show you that it can.

What a difference a few years makes.

Four years ago, I was writing a story that I never thought would see the light of day, but even then I had people cheering me on and telling me that I could do it. In less than five years, I’ve written and released six 300 plus page novels in one series and plan to release a new book in a separate series in less than a month.

So in conclusion. I’m a hard-working, neurotic, driven, fiercely loyal, paranormal and rocker romance writing, wife of Mark and loving mom of an autistic adult. That about sums me up.
