Why Write Paranormal Romance?
Thank you so much for having me here today. It is wonderful to meet you all.
I’m often asked why I write paranormal romance novels. Honestly? I love reading this genre and write what I love. The first paranormal romance book I ever read was Companions of the Night by Vivian Vande Velde – terrific YA. I met and fell in love with my first vampire-book-boyfriend and have been a fan girl ever since.
Paranormal romance has gotten hooked and a reader and a write because of the limitless world building, the endless plot possibilities, and the character development.
World building within a paranormal romance is extremely important and, as I mentioned, limitless. When I pick up a book I expect to swept into a different realm of intrigue, danger, battels, and great romance. World building keeps a read engaged, makes the book unique and memorable. A different world that is at the same time relatable to our own and characters that reader can relate to is imperative.
The plot possibilities are endless, since everything is fiction with a few expected limitations such as a werewolf changing beneath a full moon or a vampire drinking blood. The stories really can go on and on – some series do! Sherrilyn Kenyon’s Dark Hunter series and Christian Feehan’s Dark series are wonderful examples.
The characters and their development can be deep. If you’re talking about a vampire that is centuries old, he must have a terrific back story – dark, twisted – and at the same time have a fantastic leis fair attitude and wonderful sense of humor.
I strive to include these aspects within my paranormal romance series, the Rulers of Darkness. I’ve created a supernatural world within the human realm and a vampire society that is ruled by Clan Chieftains. Each ruler of darkness has their own needs, desires, pain, grief, secrets, happiness, and romance. (Hadiran from book Caressed by a Crimson Moon is my favorite.)
Thank you again for hosting my tour today. I wish you all happy reading.
