When Phoebe Meadows gets struck by a strange light in the stockroom of Macy’s, life as she knows it flies out the window. As if being hit by lightning isn’t bad enough, she’s accosted in the subway by a man with a missing hand, arrives home to find a raven on her kitchen counter, and her neighbor, Ingrid, shows up dressed like a gladiator hell-bent on protecting her.

Before Ingrid can shuttle her to safety, Phoebe is kidnapped and tossed into one of the Nine Worlds where she’s quickly forced to come to terms with what she is: A valkyrie. The only problem is, she has no idea what that means.

After a narrow escape, she finds an unlikely ally in Loki’s son, Fenrir. Together the valkyrie and the wolf must battle their way back to New York City and reach the valkyrie stronghold where Ingrid is waiting for her. But with danger and obstacles at every turn, she might not live long enough to learn the full truth about who and what she really is…

Struck is book one in the Phoebe Meadows series by Amanda Carlson. Struck is deeply rotted in mythology, it’s full of action-packed fast-paced adventure, and gripping characters that will enthrall you from the moment they are introduced.

This novel moves at a whirlwind, giving you multiple twist and turns. Once Phoebe meets the people she feels she can trust, she gives them her un-devoted loyalty and will stick with them. Together they make a powerful team and will make their way to a safe haven for the time being, until the next adventure.

Phoebe was a great heroine. She felt genuine and some of the things she goes through, all I can say is that the author made those moments very vivid, and I can’t believe she held herself together so well. WOW! Fen is pretty awesome. I liked him. He’s strong, loyal, and I look forward to seeing more of him. Their is a little insta-love thing going on that I didn’t really get into, but I understand why the author put it in. I would like to see it flushed out more. Tyr, he doesn’t talk much, but he defiantly has a presence. I’d like to dig deeper into him. Sam I really liked as Phoebe’s best friend. She was funny and rolled with everything that went down. I’d love to see her hook up with Tyr.

Last, I loved the sneak peek into Freed. I did a little girl squeal. Can’t wait for the next adventure in the Phoebe Meadows series.

Many reads will love this world. It’s unique and their aren’t many stories like this one. If you love valkyries, you are guaranteed to love this series. If you haven’t had a chance to try a valkyrie story then I suggest picking this one up and giving it a try. It was my first valkyrie book and I relished the story.

Rated: 4 Struck Stars

  1. I really like Amanda. I’ve read her werewolf books, but I’m still behind. I think I have two books left in the series. She does like fast paced stories. Glad you liked it. I plan to get to it eventually.

    • I’m two books behind on her werewolf books too. I agree she enjoys the fast paced and strong heroine leads in her stories. Thank’s for stoping by and checking out the review.

  2. I really liked Sam too. She was fun and just sort of rolled with it all. I’mean looking forward to Freedom as well!

    • Sam was a good character and I hope we get more of her. All the characters where pretty interesting and enjoyable. The teaser for Freed was pretty good. I usually don’t read the teasers unless the next book is out, but I couldn’t resist this time.
Thanks for stoping in and checking out my review Tanya!
