Ceri Grenelle Top Five Favorite Romance Films

In my new release, To Mate a Soldier, Lottie and Jeremiah, two shifters, have loved one another since the moment they met. For years they’ve hid their feelings until now, when the ailing Lottie needs Jeremiah’s help on a journey. With the tension mounting between them, no way is Jeremiah holding it all in any longer.

There are many different kinds of love, and novels tell it the best. But today, I’m going to focus on the movies, the next best thing. I present, my top five favorite romance films. It was very hard for me to narrow down to just five so the following list is in no particular order.

  • Amelie
  • A woman who lives on her own and mostly in her own fantasies is intrigued by the mystery of a man. In fantastic ways, she leaves clues for him to follow once she discovers who he is. Along the way she helps friends and neighbors find their own happiness. This movie is whimsical and plays with all corners of the imagination. It also has a lovely, fanciful score.
  • Your Name
  • If you are searching for a genre to spark your imagination, then look no further than anime. In this wonderful film, two high school students who live miles and miles away switch bodies as they dream. At first they think it’s all in their heads but then realize it’s real. They come up with a system to make sure the other doesn’t mess with their lives too much but the more they switch the more they get to know one another in lasting ways. This movie is funny, poignant, sad, and moving. Grab some tissues.
  • Beyond the Lights
  • I have never seen a movie that felt like I was reading a romance novel more than Beyond the Lights. A singer is sick of her fame and tries to end her misery, she’s talked down from a ledge by a handsome policeman. From that moment on their fates intertwine. It takes a normal guy to convince this woman who lives onstage that love is real and everlasting.
  • In Your Eyes
  • Okay, admittedly, this plot is going to sound familiar and to be fair this movie came out before Your Name. A man and woman have never met and live in different parts of the country but are connected mind-to-mind, soul-to-soul. They get to know one another and soon fall in love, despite having never met. Oh, and bonus, this movie is written by Joss Whedon, so you know it’s good.
  • Brooklyn
  • This movie made a big splash in 2015, getting nominated for lots of awards but I still heard a lot of conflicting reviews so I knew I needed to check it out for myself. The movie is slow, but I think that’s what is so clever. It creeps up on you, and the romance between the Irish immigrant and her Italian Brooklyn love in the 1950s seems everlasting. I felt like I went back in time and watched as a fly on the wall while my grandparents met as youths and fell in love. Saoirse Ronan’s performance is subtle yet strong. This movie is a must see for all romance lovers.

The Lost Alphars #2

Blurb:

Love can push the most hardened warrior to the edge of control…

The Lost Alphars Series, Book 2

Lottie Braddock has let everyone believe she’s a widow wasting away from mate sickness. In reality, she struck a devil’s bargain to conceal her young son’s true identity—a protection spell that feeds on her life force.

She plans to take one secret regret to her grave—until that regret crashes through her clinic door with one of her children in the throes of a premature shift. Desperate for more time, she sets out to find that devil once again and plead for her life.

Jeremiah Quinn, head soldier of the North American Weres, doesn’t take orders from anyone. But damned if he’s letting the ailing, fragile Lottie make this journey alone. He’s known for years she is his mate, and he’s through letting her push him away.

Come hell or high Magic, he refuses to let her go without a fight. For her life. For her love. For the love of her sons. Even if saving her soul means sacrificing his own.

Warning: Contains a healer who’s sacrificed all she has for her family and a steadfast soldier who isn’t afraid to prove he’s been a part of that family all along

To Mate an Assassin
The Lost Alphars Series Book 1

Blurb:

Cymbeline Kendall’s life is quiet, solitary—until a letter appears in her P.O. box. Then she becomes an Incendiary, a human chosen at birth to be trained to strike like lightning to take out the most dangerous of the Werekind, then fade back into the shadows.

She is a weapon only to be used by the leader of North American shifters. But when she learns the Alphar was unseated three years ago, she sets out to find who’s been pulling her trigger.

Kerrick Masterson has borne the burden of leadership for only a short time, yet he already feels the Alphar power tempting his soul toward the insanity that destroyed his predecessor. He has no time for the woman who breaks into his compound claiming to be his Incendiary, but his beast insists he make the time—for his mate.

In one searing, soul-consuming breath, everything Cymbeline was taught to believe is ripped away. Yet the mystery of who’s been sending her orders remains…and finding the answer could lead to all-out war.

Warning: Contains an assassin who doesn’t tolerate those who hurt the weak, and a shifter leader determined to unlock his new mate’s repressed emotions—even if that puts his balls at risk. Explicit sex, violence, and references to abuse that could be rough on sensitive readers.

I’ve always had an active imagination. An imagination that usually took form in the way of zoning out in the middle of conversations. I eventually decided it was time to share my daydreaming with the world and began to put my musings on paper. It started with Harry Potter fanfiction and grew from there.

I am currently living it up in Northern California after a big move from New York City. And by living it up I mean staying home with my cats, obsessively watching episodes of my favorite TV shows, all of which are extremely geeky, and simultaneously reading the next book on my reading list. I do all this while trying not to pig out on unhealthy snacks. As you can tell, I lead a busy life.
