Book Blogger Hop: Do you participate in readathons and/or reading challenges?

Posted on by

I ran across the Book Blogger Hop hosted by Ramblings of a Coffee Addicted Writer. Each week they have a new book related question you can answer. If you are interested in finding out more, the next weeks question, and/or participating then stop by the Book Blogger Hop page.

This weeks question: Do you participate in readathons and/or reading challenges?

Of course I do ^_^ ! I’ve not done readathons, since my life doesn’t allow time for that yet. But, I have and do participate in reading challenges each year.

The first year I started blogging (2014) I didn’t do any challenges. I was just getting my feet wet and starting to dive into the blogger world.

In (2015) I participated in three reading challenges. I was dipping my feet in. (2015) – The Series That Never Ends, New To Me, & Library Love.

Then in (2016) I added a few more challenges, just to give myself more of a challenge. (2016) – March Take Control of Your TBR, New To Me, Pick Your Genre, Read My Own Dame Books, and Finish The Series.

And, now in (2017) I’m hosting my own reading challenge the Library Love and participating in several challenges new and old. (2017) – Library Love, New To Me, Pick Your Genre, Blogger Shame, New Releases, Backlist Reader, & March Take Control of Your TBR.

I LOVE reading challenges. Setting that goal and meeting it or going over gives me a sense of achievement. I like the challenge. I like trying out new challenges and participating in old ones that all connect into what I read.

Do you participate in readathons and/or reading challenges?
What’s your favorite reading challenge you’ve ever done?
Do you have ones you do
every year that you like?

I would love to hear from you!

  1. Reading challenges are fun because they give you a sense of accomplishment over doing something you wanted to do anyway—reading!

    • I total agree, Nicole. Thank’s for stopping in.

  2. I love reading challenges. The problem is setting a goal I could achieve. There are two challenges that I haven’t seen resurface: the Around the World Reading Challenge and the Books in Translation Reading Challenge. The Around the World challenge made you challenge yourself to read books set in certain countries or be written by authors from certain countries. The Books in Translation Reading Challenge encouraged you to read a certain number of books in translation, or in their original language if you were multilingual.

    • Both challenges sound interesting and difficult, but fun to do. I’ve never heard of those two challenges or seen them around. I can understand the feeling on setting a goal that’s achievable. Sometimes I over set and well don’t make it, but that’s ok with me at least I tried. Thank’s Carrie for stopping in and commenting.

  3. I do love participating in reading challenges and read a thons, it can be so much fun and can really push your limits to read more. Especially when its a challenge that allows you to interact with other readers and book bloggers more.

    • Thank’s for stopping in and commenting. I agree with you reading challenges can be a lot of fun and help you push yourself. I’ve not done readathons, my life just doesn’t allow the time for it.

  4. Wow! Good job!! I used to do reading challenges and just got overwhelmed so I bowed out for a bit. Hoping to get back into a few though.

    • You can over do it on the reading challenges. I try to keep them to what genre I read and then reading count from Goodreads.

  5. I haven’t participated in a readathon yet, but I really want to someday! 🙂

    • Thank’s for stopping in.

  6. I really need to participate in more challenges. I only do the audiobook one lol

    • Doing just one is great! I haven’t done the audiobook, but I never, until just this month, started to try out the audiobooks. I’m enjoying the new way of enjoying a story. Thank’s for stopping in and commenting.

  7. I enjoy reading challenges, but decided a break was in order for this year. I had started to get burnt out. I always find them so tempting in the beginning, but as time progresses, my enthusiasm wanes. I hope you have a great weekend!

    • Breaks are good. The help you refresh and get back in there grove. Thank’s for stopping by and commenting.

  8. I’m not one to do read a thons or reading challengers.I think I owe the writer my full attention, I read at a great pace, but I like to enjoy my books like a great glass of wine, to be savored!!

    • ^_^ That’s a nice way to read. I pick challenges that fit into my reading, so I’m always savoring each and every book.

  9. I am participating in fewer challenges as I find I’m having a hard time keeping up with them. I do the GR, and I joined your Library Love, and an audiobook challenge. I don’t know what happened to my drive to meet them. I used to be really good. I like the year long challenges because it gives me time to catch up when I go through a slump. I may have to check out this meme. It’s getting hard to find book tags.

    • The year long challenges are good. I’ve only done the March TBR challenge, which is a one month challenge, but I prefer the year long ones. Goodreads is great for their challenge. I find that if I set up different shelfs for all my challenges on GR, I then remember to put the book into that shelf and can keep track and add to my pages when I feel like it. I haven’t yet gotten to the point of having a hard time keeping up with them. It might happen, just like the blogger slumps we go through, but so far I really enjoy the challenges and accomplishment when I meet that goal.
