Interview: Rich Amooi (Madam Love, Actually) ~ #BookTour

Posted on by

Hello and Welcome All!

Today I’m very lucky to be interviewing Rich Amooi, author of Madam Love, Actually.

Hi Rich, thank you for agreeing to this interview. For those readers not familiar with you, would you please tell us a bit about yourself?

Thank you! It’s great to be here. I’m a former radio DJ who now writes romantic comedies full-time. I’m happily married to a kiss monster imported from Spain and we live in San Diego, California with our very hairy daughter (a mini goldendoodle puppy). I believe in public displays of affection, silliness, infinite possibilities, donuts, gratitude, laughter, and happily ever after. I’m obsessed with romantic comedies.

What do you do when you are not writing? We love to travel. We live by the ocean, so we try to take as many walks as possible by the water. And we are always watching romantic comedies and reading romance and chick lit novels!

Is there any particular author or book that influenced you in any way wither growing up or as an adult? Before I wrote my first romantic comedy four years ago, I binge-read all of Kristan Higgins’ books. She’s a master in the way she combines romance with humor and her work has influenced me tremendously.

What is your favorite quote? That’s an easy one and it hasn’t changed over the decades. It is from one of the greatest men in American history, Martin Luther King Jr. His “I Have a Dream” speech still gives me goosebumps whenever I see it. “I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character.”

Where do you get your ideas? Sometimes, I get ideas from dreams. Sometimes they just pop in my head as I’m walking down the street! I can also get a story idea from a funny conversation I hear at Starbucks.

What types of scenes are your most favorite to write? I love torturing my characters, so anything that puts them in extremely awkward situations. I also love writing fun dialogue.

How did you come up with the concept and the characters for Madam Love, Actually? Madam Love was actually a character in my novel, Lilliana Jones and the Temple of Groom. I had many readers asking me (begging me?) to find her a man and give her a happily-ever-after of her own. I just couldn’t say no since she’s such a fun character to write.

Give us insight into your main character. What does she do that is so special? Madam Love is a fortune teller who specializes in finding people their soulmates and she is very good at what she does.

Thank you very much for taking the time out of your busy schedule to take part in this interview.

Thanks so much for having me!

Madam Love, Actually

Lance Parker is an arrogant know-it-all. As author of the bestselling book Your Soulmate Doesn’t Exist, he says love is for losers. Madam Love is a fortune teller and matchmaker who has brought hundreds of couples together.

When the two clash during a radio interview, she admits even someone as irritating and impossible as Lance has a soulmate. He says she’s delirious and a fraud. Then the gauntlet is laid down: Madam Love has two weeks to prove Lance wrong and find him a soulmate.

When Lance meets wonderful Emma by chance, he doesn’t know what to think anymore. But Emma has a secret. She’s Madam Love, actually. And it’s going to take a whole lot more than a crystal ball to get her out of this mess.
