2019 Challenges I’m Participating In

Posted on by

This year I thought I was going to cut back on reading challenges and only be doing 2 challenges (Library Love and Goodreads), but I soon signed up for 4 more (New Releases, Backlist Reader, For The Love eBooks Reading, & Discussion). I was like this is doable and some of the challenges I can crossover with others.

Feel free to join in on any of these challenges. Details, sign up links, and more are below:

**I LOVE the library and I’m the host, so I’ll be participating in my own challenge. To bad I can’t enter my own giveaway, but that’s ok!! I can showcase my love throughout the year of all the items I get from the library and how much I save. MY GOAL: Overdrive Junk 36+ and update page.

2019 Library Love Challenge – Sign Up Here (Giveaway Offered)

The main purpose of this challenge is to use your library.

I hope you will join me in celebrating and support libraries.

Details:

Runs: January 1, 2019 – December 31, 2019. You can join any time.

  • Put a sign up post on your blog or (dedicate a Goodreads shelf or LibraryThing) and link it in the linky below. Make sure it’s public.
  • The goal is to read at least twelve (12) books from the library, but you can read more. While twelve is the minimum, there is no maximum limit. See the different levels below and pick the one that works best for you.
  • Any format will work for this challenge (prints, ebooks, or audios); as long as you checked it out from the library, it counts.
  • Books can be any genre (fiction, nonfiction, romance, fantasy, mystery, thriller, horror, etc.).
  • Crossovers from other reading challenges are allowed, including re-reads. The goal is to support your local library and save money.
  • As an added bonus: I’m offering up a GIVEAWAY with this Challenge. Winner will be picked at the end of the year!! Their are a few freebie entries just for signing up to join the challenge and then the main entries throughout the year will be the direct links to your book reviews. You will have until Jan. 4th, 2020 to enter your reviews in the Linky/Rafflecopter. Go here to enter your reviews & the giveaway: 2019 Library Love Challenge Review Link-ups.
  • (Optional) Mid-Year Library Check In: This year (2019) I plan on posting a Mid-Year Library Check In Post sometime in June or July. This post is to showcase what you have done so far in the Library Love Challenge. I’ll be offering up a separate giveaway for the Mid-Year Library Check In.
  • (Optional) Reviews: Write a review to enter the giveaway – 2 sentences or an essay, whatever works for you, but there is a minimum of 2 sentences. Not sure what to write? How about something like, “The plot was a delight, but the characters didn’t capture me.” “I enjoyed the story and really liked the characters.”
  • Please use #LibraryLoveChallenge when sharing your reviews, library pictures, etc…

Levels:

  • Dewey Decimal: Read 12 books
  • Thrifty Reader: Read 24 books
  • Overdrive Junkie: Read 36 books
  • Library Addict: Read 48 books
  • Library Card on Fire: Read 60+ books

**I picked this challenge because I plan on reading a lot of backlist titles this year. I have a box of books to read and most of all the books I get from the library are older titles, so this challenge is right up my alley. MY GOAL: 30+ backlist books and update page.

2019 Backlist Reading Challenge – Sign Up Here (Giveaway Offered)

The Rules:

The rules are simple. Only (1) and (2) are mandatory.

(1) To count for the challenge, books have to be published before 2018 AND already be on your TBR list or pile. In other words, you don’t have to own the book. If it was on your want-to-read list when you signed up for the challenge, and it came out in 2017 or earlier, it counts… regardless of format (ebook, print book, audiobook) and how you acquired it.

Last year, I was asked about rereads. You can only count a rereads if (a) you haven’t read the book in the last 10 years, and (b) you can’t remember any more of it than you would learn by reading the publisher’s blurb. In other words, it should feel new to you. I know this is subjective, but bear in mind, this isn’t a rereading challenge. (There are other challenges for that.)

(2) Create a goals or sign-up post on your blog or wherever you usually post your reviews (e.g., Goodreads, LibraryThing, Instagram.) Please link back to this post! Then link your sign-up post below, where you see the “Add your link” button. (Please link the actual goals/sign-up post, not your home page.)  You can set your own goal, and you can list the books you want to read this year, or leave it up to your mood at the time—as long as they are already on your TBR list when you sign up! You can sign up through December 1, 2019; after that, the sign-up link will be closed.

(3) Review the books you read, and post the links on the review linky (reachable through the top menu bar.) You can certainly do the challenge without writing reviews, but the review links are your entries for the year-end giveaway. Reviews don’t have to be long; a few sentences is fine. You can post them on Goodreads or LibraryThing if you don’t have a blog. Please link to your review itself (not to your blog;s main page, your profile, or the book’s Goodreads or LibraryThing page.)

(4) On or just after the end of the year, post a wrap-up post to let us know how you did! I’ll create a link-up post for the wrap-up posts, too. Again, this one isn’t absolutely necessary, but I hope you’ll do it anyway, just for the fun of looking back and seeing your accomplishment!

**I picked this challenge; because I’m going to be reading some new releases, so why not participate. MY GOAL: 1-30 books per year – New Release Newbie and update page.

2019 New Release Challenge –Sign Up Here (Giveaway Offered)

The rules for the 2019 New Release Challenge are simple:

  • Books have to be released and reviewed in 2019.
  • Other challenges can be used as well, if you are participating in the Netgalley / Edelweiss challenge or in the COYER challenge, books can count towards more than one challenge, as long as the ones you use for the 2018 New Release Reading Challenge qualify to the other rules.
  • The minimum length for a book to qualify is 100 pages, it can be in any format though, physical, e-book, ARC or audiobook.
  • The New Release Challenge is open from January 1st through December 31st 2019, and sign-ups are open until September 1st 2019.
  • You don’t have to be a blogger to participate, you can link to your review on Goodreads or Booklikes instead – so don’t be shy!
  • If you want to spread the love, please use #2019NewReleaseChallenge on Twitter.

There are five levels  in the 2019 New Release Challenge:

  1. 1-30 books per year – New Release Newbie
  2. 31-60 books per year – New Release Pro
  3. 61-100 books per year – New Release Veteran
  4. 101-200 books per year – New Release Enthusiast
  5. 200+ books per year – New Release Obsessed

** I signed up for this one just after the new year. I was looking for something to help me read all the ebooks I have that I’ve bought or picked up for free. I found this challenge. My Goal: Phase 3: 21-30 and update page.

2019 Discussion Challenge – Sign Up Here (Giveaway Offered Each Month)

So often, we book bloggers mean to post more discussions on our blogs, but we just don’t quite get around to it. Well, we wanted to give everyone a little motivation to keep the discussions going, plus give us a place to link up our discussions so that more people will see our precious words of wisdom (or … you know … our GIF-filled rants).

Here’s All You Have to Do:

  • Create a sign-up post announcing your intention to participate and link up below. There’s no need to say what your discussion posts will be about–just tell us you’re joining and let us know your goal. (Can be in an update post or a post with other challenges–you’re not required to make a completely separate sign-up post.)
  • Please link back to both challenge hosts and include the challenge button in your sign-up posts.
  • The challenge runs from January 1st until December 31st, 2019. Sign-ups will remain open through December 31st, 2019. (So, you can sign up all year long! Come join us!)
  • Share it! The more people we get to participate in this, the more awesome discussions we can all be a part of and the more fun it will be! So, invite your friends to join us!
  • Discussions can be about whatever you want as long as it’s relevant to books or book blogging (no discussions about things that are completely off-topic like travel or fashion, etc). They can also be about you personally if it’s a get-to-know-you type post.
  • On the 1st of every month, a link-up will go up on both Feed Your Fiction Addiction and It Starts at Midnight where you’ll leave your links for that month’s discussions. Every month, we’ll update this 2019 Book Blog Challenge Page with the links to that month’s Challenge linky–so you’ll always know where to find the latest link-up!
  • There will also be monthly giveaways, so make sure you check in!
  • Every month, we’ll feature our favorite posts from one challenge participant. There will be extra options in the Rafflecopter for commenting on posts by our featured blogger.
  • Use the hashtag #LetsDiscuss2019 to share your progress and connect with other participants on Twitter.
  • Have questions? Feel free to ask in the comments!

The Levels:

  • 1-10 – Discussion Dabbler
  • 11-20 – Creative Conversationalist
  • 21-30 – Chatty Kathy
  • 31-40 – Terrifically Talkative
  • 41+ – Gift of the Gab

That’s the list of 2019 Reading Challenges I’m participating in.
How about you… What challenges are you going to try?

  1. I am also joining the Discussion Challenge this year. I also joined Beat the Backlist, which is something similar to Backlist Reading Challenge. Unfortunately, I do not have an access to a good library right now so I won’t be able to join the challenge you are hosting. I am wishing you all the best with these challenges, you can do it! 🙂

  3. I love the “Library Love” challenge!! I promised myself no more challenges or I’d totally sign up for that one too, haha. <3 Good luck with all your challenges – you can do it!! 😀

  4. I have to be honest I am in 3 right now. The GR challenge – I do that every year. The Audiobook challenge with Kim from Caffeinated Reviewer and The Bad Boys of Romance Challenge from Delighted Reader. For me with school that is enough for now. I might do another one or two – haven’t decided yet. Good luck with your challenges!

  5. Good luck with all your challenges, and welcome to The Backlist Reader Challenge! I’ve been eyeing your Library Lovers Challenge, and may sign up soon. I used to use the library a lot, and there are still lots of books I want to borrow, but I’ve been so swamped with ARCs and what I own that I’ve been neglecting the library a bit. I’ve got a mile-long “For Later” of library books, so your challenge would be a good choice for me.

  6. Good luck with these challenges. I’m also doing New Release and of course, Library Love. I’m doing a different Backlist challenge. I also LOVE the audiobook challenge. Then there are the shorter things like COYER which I never miss. I hope it allows you to focus on reading some fun things. Anne – Books of My Heart

  7. Wow! Good luck. These are some impressive challenges. Lately, all I’ve done is the basic – Goodreads – and the Audiobook Challenges. But this year, after hearing about it from Anne, I’m doing the Beat the Backlist Challenge – since a goal for 2019 is to read some of my TBRs, I’m excited about this one!

  8. Good luck with your challenges. I am only challenging myself to read at least 100 books this year.

    • That’s a good challenge. Good luck. Thank’s for stopping in.

  9. I stuck with just the Goodreads and the Audiobook challenges again this year. I have a goal this year of getting more content out on the blog so the Discussion challenge would have been good, but I’m not confident yet in my ability to get many of that type of post out. Good luck to you with your challenges!
