Re-Post Reviews: Vale of Stars Series (Books #0.5 – #2) by Juliette Cross

Posted on by

The author republished the Vale of Stars series; because the publisher went out of business. I have to say I really love the new covers. they pop and represent the characters and stories perfectly. The stories have little additions or fixes from the first editions and I like what the author has done.

Notes from Angel’s Guilty Pleasures:

I re-bought the series to re-read the new additions. This is one of my favorite series. Below I will feature my previous published reviews and my additional 2018 thoughts on the re-released titles.

Known as the most eligible bachelor and emotionally unavailable in all of Gladium Province, she sees him as the aloof, arrogant brother of her dear friend. But when they finally meet, she isn’t sure she can handle how deep and how fast they both fall.

An old enemy resurfaces and once more threatens those Demetrius loves. When Shakara plans to speak before Parliament against business tycoon Aron Grayson, she puts her own life in the line of fire. Demetrius will stop at nothing to protect the woman he can no longer live without.

Nov. 2018: Re-read the re-release of Dragon Heartstring. I enjoyed it all over again. My views have not changed and I had a delightful time returning to this world.

Old Review 2016:

Let me saying that I love the Nightwing and Vale of Stars series. The Morgans are interesting as is the world and history about them. I relish each new installment!

This is a dazzling new take on the Morgan matings. A human male and a female Morgan are mates. Something new, that has not been seen or heard of in both worlds.

Demetrius is the heir to Cade Enterprises and the most eligible billionaire bachelor. Shakara is a Morgan and an Icewing healer.

These two will band together to help take down a weapon that’s sole purpose is to kill Morgankind and in the process find a passion that is electrifying and cannot be denied. The chemistry is smoking and the sexual tension is fiery. Besides the romance we are treated to a few appearances by previous featured characters and couples.

I would suggest that you read Soulfire; before Dragon Heartstring. Why? Well Demetrius is brother to Jessen and she is the main character in Soulfire. Also several things are talked about that happened in Soulfire, so if you don’t want to be spoiled, want a deeper understanding of the characters and their relationships, then I would say pick up Soulfire first. Do you have too? No!

Dragon Heartstring is a smoldering read. It provides a unique and fasting perspective into Morgans and Humans. I can’t wait for more!

Waking the Dragon

(Vale of Stars #1)

The Gladium Province is on the verge of civil unrest as humans and Morgons, the dragon-hybrid race, clash once more. But amid disorder can also arise passion.

When the bodies of three human women are discovered in Morgon territory—with the DNA of several Morgon men on the victims—it’s just a matter of time before civil unrest hits the Province. But for ambitious reporter Moira Cade, it’s more than just a story, and it may mean risking her own life.

Descending into the dark underworld of Morgon society, Moira is paired with Kol Moonring, Captain of the Morgon Guard, for her protection. Fiercely independent, Moira bristles at his dominance, and defies his will at every turn. Yet resistance proves futile when passion flares between them, awakening powerful emotions within both, body and soul. But as the killings continue, can their fiery newfound bond survive an even greater evil—one that threatens all of humanity, Morgonkind, and Moira’s very soul?…

Nov. 2018: Waking the Dragon has been re-released. I loved it all over again. I was on the edge of my set with the mystery and danger Jessen is in. It was wonderful and the little tide bit, (I think she added something new from the 1st edition), and it was great! Love the Morgan’s!

Old Review 2015:

~ 5 Waking the Dragon Stars ~

Waking the Dragon is book one in the Vale of Stars series by Juliette Cross and is best read after you read the Nightwing novellas. It gives us a different perspective on the Morgon race and that some prefer to embrace there more darker dragon side.

I love dragons and JCross has made these Morgon men so irresistible. When they find their true mate it’s a love like no other. I am in love with these Morgon men and can’t get enough. This book was outstanding and I could not put it down.

Moria is the little sister of Jessen, which we meet both in Soulfire. Moria is Senior Editor for her college newspaper and will go to great lengths to get her story. I’m one who shy’s away from characters that are reports. They always seem too pushy, noisy, and annoying to me, but JCross made Moria more of an investigative type, which I found interesting. She is also very strong willed and independent.

Kol is the embodiment of the more hard core Morgon man. Captain of the Morgon Guard and Alpha all the way. We get to meet him in Windburn. He reminded me of Judd from the Psy-Changeling series. A man cold as ice who needs the love of his true mate to thaw him out.

We are about 5-years into humans and Morgon’s living peaceful together, but that peace is about to shatter. We are taken on a murder mystery that is intense, darker then I expected, but so good and WOWthe author throws in a really good plot with some twists that had me reeling. The last few pages where intense, action crazy, and overwhelming.

Kol and Moria make a great pair. The chemistry between these two is explosive. Neither want the emotional ties, but fate has other plans. As things move along they grow to have a deeper emotional and physical connection that both never expected to be possible. The love story was beautiful done.

I can not wait for more in this brand new series by JCross. This book is outstanding, sweet, sexy, crazy, intense, and all out awesome.

Dragon in the Blood

(Vale of Stars #2)

While all seems quiet in Gladium Province, the Morgon Guard—the global justice force for the dragon hybrid race—knows their enemy is rebuilding its forces in the underground.

Valla Moonring, an assassin for an order of the Morgon Guard, is ordered to join an expedition through the Wastelands of Aria, a formidable, icy wilderness fraught with all manner of dangers, including outlaws, deadly weather, and big-game predators.

To her great distaste, she’s partnered with a Nightwing Security operative, Conn Rowanflame, a Morgon with the aggravating ability to get under her skin. While she takes her mission seriously, Conn’s confident charm throws her off balance, a dangerous place to be in conditions like these. Especially when cold nights require close contact.

Sensual attraction binds them ever closer, igniting a passion of unexpected force—soulfire. But when the hunters become the hunted, their bond could prove perilous. Even fatal…

Re-Read Nov. 2018: I had fun re-visiting this story. I think the author added a few things. It felt like it. I don’t remember getting the prophecy in that way and spending so, much time in the bad lands as well as the side story with the Priestess helping the bad guys. We had all that and more. The first time around I don’t think it was as flushed out. I really loved the story the first time around, but I felt the little things added, just added more, to the story and I can’t wait for the next book to come out. My previous review still reflects how I feel about Dragon in the Blood.

Old Review 2015:

WOW!

I love dragons and JCross has made these Morgon men so irresistible that I can’t get enough. When they find their true mate; it’s a love like no other.

Dragon in the Blood is book two in the Vale of Stars series by Juliette Cross. This tale continues from the first book, Waking the Dragon, where the Morgan’s are on the hunt for the Blood King who is recking havoc and kidnaping human women, so you do need to read this series in order.

I couldn’t put Dragon in the Blood down and read this in a day. It’s that good! We get a different type of romance then previously featured with two Morgan’s mating in this one. I liked the different pairing and the relationship. Vale was raised by her brothers to be a strong and independent woman. She doesn’t need another alpha male in her life. Conn is the one man who get’s on her nerves. Conn knows how to sweet talk woman and loves them, but the one he truly wants rebuffs him at every turn. He doesn’t understand why it’s so important to have this one woman.

The plot thickens and the author delivers us with two different evils showing their faces. One we have seen before the Blood King and a new one the Poison Princess. Each have their own agendas. I liked that we get to see three different POV’s. It was interesting to see all the different sides and dig deeper into the plot. The story is non-stop from start to finish. I also liked that we meet other characters and the inhabits of Arians where the murders, thieves, and outcast live.

Dragon in the Blood reveals some truths, shocks use with a prophecy, and leaves us with a twist ending. I am on pins and needles for the next installment.
