When killing people is your job, there's no such thing as a vacation.

Then again, how often does an assassin live long enough to enjoy her retirement? In this line of work, you either get lucky or you get dead. And since I destroyed my nemesis Mab Monroe a few weeks ago, all of Ashland's lowlifes are gunning to make a name for themselves by taking out the lethal Spider--me, Gin Blanco. So I'm leaving behind my beloved barbecue joint and heading south with my baby sister, Bria, to cool my heels in a swanky beach town. Call it a weekend of fun in the sun. But when a powerful vampire with deadly elemental magic threatens an old friend of Bria's, it looks like I'll have to dig my silverstone knives out of my suitcase after all. Complicating matters further is the reappearance of Detective Donovan Caine, my old lover. But Donovan is the least of my problems. Because this time, the danger is hot on my trail, and not even my elemental Ice and Stone magic may be enough to save me from getting buried in the sand--permanently.

** Spoiler from previous book’s in this review. **

Another stellar installment in the Elemental Assassin series.

Now that Gin’s reputation as the Spider is common knowledge and Mab Monroe is out of the picture, Gin decides to get out of town and takes a much needed vacation with her sister, Bria.

Bria is excited to go home and visit with her best friend Callie. Gin sees how close they are and she’s jealous of their relationship. She’s tried to develop the same kind with her sister, but it hasn’t come to be. Will they every learn to trust and care for each other?

Donovan Cain pops back up and for, Gin, feelings and emotions come to a head in relation to Cain and her sister. Besides the personal issues we have another heavy hitter who is trying to take down Gin aka the Spider.

Their’s a lot of action, adventure, and on the edge of your set moments. I was in awe with how tough Gin is and that she lived through some of the things that happened. Man does she get bet up bad in this one. The pace is smooth and Estep’s knows how to hit home with each chapter. She kept me reading. The world building and characters for this series are so interesting, intriguing, and all in composing. I really enjoy the direction the author is going now that Mab is out of the picture. I wasn’t sure what would happen once Gin took care of an old enemy.

By a Thread blends the old with the new and takes the Elemental Assassin world in a new direction. I’m hooked and I can’t stop reading. Each book grabs me! The series has everything I love in an Urban Fantasy; kickass heroine, packed full of action, surprises, and suspense, plus many fabulous characters to enjoy. I highly recommend the Elemental Assassin series.

Rated: 5 Stars

This series needs to be read in order.

    • I’m trying to read one book a month in the Elemental Assassin series. Same on The Dresden Files until I get caught up on them. I need to get back to Jane Yellowrock, but got side tracked with this series. ^_^ Totally loving it. Thank’s for stopping in.

  2. I was glad to get more of a closure with Cain. I always fall for the wrong guy so of course I liked him and not Owen. Great review!

    • Always good to finish one series before starting another. I’ve got a few different backlist series going. Dresden, Elemental Assassin, & I need to get back to Jane Yellowrock. ^_^ Hope you enjoy. I haven’t listened to an audio for this series, only read, but I do love the series and it became a fast favorite and one I’ll recommend.

  4. Yea!!! So glad you are still loving. I remember really liking this one. But now I’m trying to recall if I missed your review of book 5… I’ll need to go back and see.

  6. Fabulous review Angela!!! Sounds good!! Shared on my socials!??

    • Thank you!

  7. Argh! Donovan Caine! Not my favorite character. Gin was so better off without him but I still haven’t forgiven him for breaking her heart. I also felt a little sorry for Gin who was trying so hard for that sister relationship. This was a fun one. Always a crazy ride with Gin and the gang!

    • I never liked Caine and how he treated Gin. I agree she’s so much better off without him. Ya, the sister relationship. That was hard. I’m glad things worked out in the end. Gin is so much fun. I LOVE this series. So, glad I finally picked it up. ^_^
