The Soul Mate Tree Series ~ #BookTour #Excerpt #Interview

For C.D. Hersh and Can’t Stop the Music (The Soul Mate Tree Book 2)

What is the sweetest thing someone has done for you?

We’ll let Catherine (the C in C.D. Hersh) answer this one, and she chooses her husband and co-author, Donald (The D in C.D. Hersh), as the someone. The sweetest thing Donald has done for her is gifting flowers. It’s not just the flowers, but the way he’s done it. He’s come home with an arm full of forsythia that he picked off the side of the road. Forsythia is one of Catherine’s favorite spring blooms. He made his construction buddies stop the truck while he picked flowers by the roadside. He took a lot of ribbing for that. Gotta love a man who’s willing to stand up to hoots of burly construction workers while he picks posies for the wife.  Another time he had a dozen roses delivered to their restaurant table one at a time by the servers. While at a writing conference he had a giant bouquet of flowers delivered to Catherine on Sweetest Day. Flowers aren’t just for special occasion either. They show up at the house just because. That’s probably why the heroes gifting flowers to the heroines in our stories shows up so much. It’s a natural part of our life.

How would you spend ten thousand bucks?

We’d take loooong vacations to our favorite spots: Disney World and Colonial Williamsburg.

Where do you get your best ideas?

For us, ideas can come from anywhere. We do a lot of brainstorming while we’re traveling on the road. Our paranormal shape shifter Turning Stone Chronicle Series started with a road sign. We eavesdrop on conversations in restaurants. It’s amazing how a single scrap of conversation, that you know nothing about, can spark a story idea. We also like taking a plot idea, like the one the editors of Soul Mate Publishing sent out for The Soul Mate Tree Collective, and saying, “What if? How can we make this work?” When we were trying to figure out a plot and setting for our book in the Collective, Can’t Stop the Music, we saw a car commercial that had a grandmother telling her granddaughter she met grandpa under this tree. Or was it that tree? The whole family ended up hugging the tree. As they left, a Woodstock sign appeared in the road. It was from that commercial that we decided to set our book, and the magical Soul Mate tree at Woodstock. No idea is too small to explore as far as we are concerned.

What comes first, the plot or characters?

Neither. Usually the title comes first for us. Then the plot. The characters don’t get fleshed out until we know where the story is going.

What does your main character do that makes him/her special?

The hero and heroine in our rock ‘n rock genre book, Can’t Stop the Music are talented musicians who are passionate about music. Can’t Stop the Music is a story filled with music references. After all, it’s set in Woodstock 1969. The heroine, who wants to be a music teacher, loves all kinds of music. The hero is into Rock and Roll at Woodstock and later carries that love into his job, with nearly disastrous results.

Thanks for hosting us today! It’s been fun.

SOUL MATE TREE SERIES

GENRE: Fantasy

BLURB:

An ancient legend spanning eras, continents, and worlds.

To some, it’s nothing more than a dream.

To others, a pretty fairy tale handed down through the generations.

For those in critical need of their own happy ending, a gift.

THE LEGEND OF THE SOUL MATE TREE

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Jammed highways, food shortages, and rainstorms can’t stop the music when hippies Rose and Dakota hear the melody of love at the 1969 Woodstock Music Festival. Or can it? When a jealous wannabe girlfriend and misunderstandings drive them apart, the couple loses track of one another in the massive crowd. Will they find each other again, or live lives of missed opportunities?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~

When they reached the makeshift bridge over the road, someone yelled, “Hey beautiful! You with the red hair.”

She looked around to see if there was anyone else with red hair. Then she glanced up and spotted two guys, one blond and the other dark-haired, leaning over the side of the bridge.

“Yeah, you,” the blond called out as he caught her gaze.

Willow halted beside her. “He’s cute. How about him?”

Rose looked away, her gaze landing on the other guy.

He jabbed his companion in the ribs. “Quit trying to pick up every girl you see.” Then he leaned farther over the rail. “Don’t pay any attention to him. He’s high.”

“So she’s not beautiful?” Willow yelled to the hippie.

She poked her friend. “Stop it, Willow, you’re making a scene.” In spite of her protest, her gaze remained on the dark-haired guy.

He rested his elbows on the rail and stared back at her. The intensity of his expression shot heat into her belly.

“I didn’t say that, just that she shouldn’t pay attention to him.” He flapped a hand at his blond buddy, then tapped his own chest with his thumb several times as if to say, ‘Choose me!’

Does he want me to pay attention to him? Her heart thumped in rhythm to his jabbing thumb.

“Take that one,” Willow whispered. “He’s the real cutie.”
