The sole witness to a horrific crime, Kaylee Ramay flees to the Colorado Rockies to start a new life. There, she becomes Grace, a dog kennel employee desperately trying to avoid attention - especially from dangerously attractive K9 Officer Hugh Murdoch.

Because Hugh is tall, dark...and nothing but trouble.

Hugh is anxious to get back in the field after an act of heroism left him warming the bench. Until then, he and his K9 partner Lexi spend their hours teasing the town's mysterious newcomer. But when their simmering attraction is nearly cut short by a sniper's bullet, Hugh's mystery woman must come clean about the secrets she keeps....

Or both of them will pay the price.

On the Chase is book two in the Rocky Mountain K9 Unit by Katie Ruggle. You can read this book without having read book one, but I feel you should read in order.

This story covers Hugh Murdoch and his canine partner, Lexi, who is the only drug sniffing dog in the town.

Kaylee was hard to like at first. She’s all about the designer cloths and her large walk in closet. She’s worked hard to get where she is. Coming from a life of little to having everything she wants. She was very material orientated, but her life takes a major turn when she discovers that her boyfriend might not be who she thought.

That opening scene in the big fancy house of her boyfriends family was intense. And what she discovers sends Kaylee into hiding and she finds herself in small town living with a family of siblings (our heroine from book one). Now Kaylee is back to having nothing and working minimum wage.

I eventually I warmed up to Kaylee. She eventually realizes that what she truly lost was her best friend, Penny, and that the life she was making isn’t what is important. She really takes a liking to Jules and the family and eventually the town and it’s people.

Hugh is the jokester, has a lock picking problem, is not trusting, but all-around a great guy. I love how much he cares about his friends and his canine partner, Lexi.

Hugh and Kaylee aka Grace as she goes by. These two kinda biker/joke, but in a fun way. Their talks are a way to get each other to come out of the funk or not think about the issues plaguing them. As they start to spend time together, weird things happen around them. Kaylee think’s it’s who she’s hiding from and that she is endangering the people around her.

We get a great cast of characters. The suspense and who is doing the bad things builds wonderful as does the romance between Hugh and Kaylee.

Narration: Callie Beaulieu does a wonderful job again with her narration of On the Chase. I like her voices for all the characters, both men, women, and kids. I’m enjoying listening to this series and plan to continue in audio.

On the Chase was a fun story. I really like Hugh and his jokester ways. I also like his canine partner, Lexi. Kids and canine’s add a little something more to stories and I really enjoy when they are in the books I’m reading.
