Long ago, the Dragon Born were hailed as the most powerful mages in the world. Today, they are condemned as abominations and have been hunted to near extinction.

Sera Dering has spent her entire life hiding her forbidden magic from the supernatural council who would kill her for the crime of being born. After years of drifting, she’s finally found a new life working as a low-grade mercenary for San Francisco’s oldest monster cleanup guild. She’s safe—as long as she pretends to be human.

But a dark and mysterious power is taking control of mages’ minds, and Sera’s guild sends her in to investigate. To save her city from a magical apocalypse, she must work together with a sexy and deadly mage who represents the very council that sentenced the Dragon Born to death. And if he finds out what she is, she’ll be next…

Mercenary Magic is the first book in the Dragon Born Serafinaurban fantasy series.

The Dragon Born Series The Dragon Born Serafina and Dragon Born Alexandria sister series can be read independently or together. Suggested reading order: Mercenary Magic (Dragon Born Serafina, Book 1) Magic Edge (Dragon Born Alexandria, Book 1) And more books coming soon...

“So be crazy and foolish and whatever else you want. But I’ve tasted your magic. I will find out what it is. And when I do, I’ll be keeping you and your magic all to myself.”Mercenary Magic 60%

Mercenary Magic is book one in the Dragon Born Serafina series by Ella Summers. We are treated to lots of action, magic, and a budding romance. It’s a fast paced read.

I very much enjoy the Legion of Angels series by Ella Summers and so, deiced to try out some of her other series. Dragon Born Serafina is a great start to the series. It’s got potential.

We are treated to a little mystery where a dark and mysterious power is taking control of mages’ minds, and Sera’s guild has sent her in to investigate. As for the villains they were a bit too obvious and their motives was lacking, but still this plot was entertaining.

Kai and Sera are interesting, but they also felt a little flat. Sera is strong and resolute, but she lacked depth. She’s spent her entire life hiding her forbidden magic from the supernatural council who would kill her for the crime of being born.

I did enjoyed the introduction into the world and characters. I liked Kai and Sera together. Kai won’t give up until he discovers the magic that he can sense in Sera. The romance is a slow build and is in that sexual tension faze.

The Dragon Born is an interesting concept and we learn a little about them, but their is more to discover.

The one thing I didn’t get is that Sera’s been hiding her whole life and at the end the Council knows she has powers and will be testing her. Why doesn’t she disappear again? Why stay? I’m confused on this part.

All and all Mercenary Magic was a delightful read and I’m looking forward to the next and seeing where things go.

  1. Hmmmm… this sounds like it has a lot of promise. It’s been a while since I’ve found a solid, more than one book, UF series. I’ll see what you think of the others.

    • I like her Legion of Angels series which is UF too. This new to me series is investing and has potential, but after reading book 3 I realized I need to read the companion series, Dragon Born Alexandria, that features her sister. I’m thinking about picking up KU here and giving the rest of the series a go since their are a lot of books in this world that co-inside. Thank’s for visiting!

  2. That’s got to be interesting having the two series side by side. I do enjoy Ella Summers and the Legion of Angels series is awesome. Just wish the rest of the audios would hurry up and release! I know, I grumble about that every time I see Ella Summers name! LOL

    • This series is interesting and fun. I like Summers Legion of Angels better and I did notice some similarities to this series and the Angels one. Also After read book 3 I found out I need to be reading the complementary series too along with it. So back I go. I’m going to be picking up the KU deal here soon and Summers is in it, so I can read this series and the others. Thank’s for visiting.

  3. It does seem to be a promising start to a new series. LOL, I wonder things like that when it seems a character is making an odd choice.

    • Ya, I wonder where the author is going when a character makes an odd choice or does something that seams out of character. The series has promise, but I’m finding out I need to read the correlating series about her sister to along side this. I’ve found myself a little lost. Thank’s for stopping in.

    • The covers are eye catching for this series. If you have Kindle Unlimited they are offered up their. I haven’t yet, but I found out after I read book 3 in the series that you need to read the correlating series that goes with this one, which is Dragon Born Alexandria. I tried to read book 4, but was lost, so I’m think some things are explained in the other series in this world. Hopefully!! ^_^ Hope you enjoy.
