After a devastating breakup in the middle of her summer vacation, Summer Peters knows she needs something to distract her. What better than the arrival of fall, Halloween, and a new client? Though she assumes that Alexander Williams will be a hands-off client, she is surprised to find him very down-to-earth. She’s immediately drawn to him, much to the dismay of his overprotective assistant. When it becomes obvious that he feels the same, she begins to wonder if their meeting was meant to be.

Just when she thinks she could be ready to move on with her life, her ex-boyfriend Jake returns for a second chance. She’s in for even more of a surprise when she learns her nosy, meddling neighbor is actually a psychic pushing to reveal details of her future.

Summer doesn’t know which way to turn as she feels like she’s being pulled in different directions. Between Alexander, his assistant, and her ex-boyfriend, she fears she may not be ready to move on after all. She considers turning to her neighbor for advice but the fear of knowing exactly what the future holds is more frightening than not knowing.

Fall Into Magic is book one in the Seasons of Summer by Melissa Baldwin. It’s a quick short read.

I picked this up as a freebie. I was expecting something that had some witchy magic. The title and cover imply magic, but their was nothing unless you count a noise neighbor who says she’s a psychic.

The reason for Summer’s boyfriend to dump her was stupid and one he should have talked to her about first, before leaving like he did. He comes back and of course this adds unnecessary drama. There is also the unnecessary drama that comes in the form of a jealous assistant to Alexander.

As for the romance between Alexander and Summer, it just was. I had no emotional connection to the characters and it felt like the author needed this to happen. They just were. One minute they are spending time together and the next their together in a relationship, though they only have stollen moments here and their, so I’m not sure how they could develop into the next step.

Sadly their was no character development nor world building. It felt like a bunch of words on a page that followed an outline to get from point A to point B. It wasn’t disastrous nor did it have anything bad or trigger like; it just had nothing worth falling for.

Fall Into Magic was not the book for me. If the blurb intrigues you, I urge you to give it a shot. Just because it did not work for me does not mean it won’t for you.

  1. Nice review. The author was on my blog a while back and I thought the blurb sounded good, but just didn’t have the time to read it. Will you try the second book?

    • I don’t think I’ll continue with this series. I was won over by this book.

  2. Sorry to hear that. I’ve picked up a few short freebies lately and some of them have been good, some not so good.

    • You never know what you’re going to get. The cover and title are cute, but I don’t think they fit the book. They lead the reader to think they are getting one thing when it’s something different.

  3. oh too bad for this one

    • Ya!

  4. Yeah, I’d think it was a witchy halloween story, too, based on the cover. Bummer that it was rather blah.

    • Ya. The cover and title made it sound witchy halloween, but turned out to be something else. Thank’s for visiting!

  5. Fabulously reviewed Angela! Sorry it wasn’t a better read! Shared on my socials!????

    • Not every book works. Thank’s Kat.
