Character Interview: Nina Fleet (Peachy Scream by Anna Gerard) ~ #BookTour

Posted on by

Hello and Welcome!

Today I’ve got Nina Fleet from Georgia B&B series here today to talk with us.

Please introduce yourself to our audience and tell us about your B&B? Hello, I’m happy to be here today. My name is Nina Fleet (pronounced NINE-ah). I’m originally from Texas but lived in Atlanta, Georgia for almost twenty years while married to my now-ex husband, a well-known pro golfer. About a year after my divorce, I relocated to the small Georgia town of Cymbeline, just south and west of Savannah.

I’m always thrilled to talk about my Bed and Breakfast inn, Fleet House. It’s a gorgeous Queen Anne home with a green, yellow, and cream paint scheme, plus plenty of gingerbread trim and a porch that wraps around the front and along one side. We have four upstairs guest rooms, each with its own theme that I tweak every so often. We have lovely grounds, almost half an acre with a huge magnolia in the front and a brick patio and plenty of landscaping in the back. That landscaping includes an authentic Shakespeare garden planted in the early 1900s.

I love the Australian Shepherd breed and had one myself. What drew you to the breed and what fun tricks can Matilda do? Mattie is a rescue pup. You know how clever but hard-headed the breed sometimes can be, and unfortunately some owners just can’t deal with that. As I’m divorced, I wanted a dog that was smart and loyal and tough, and Mattie definitely fills the bill. She knows all her basic commands, but mostly she thinks things out for herself. Oh, a nun who was one of my first guests when I opened the B&B taught Mattie to say her prayers. It’s really cute to see.

Now, I hear you are facing some challenges in Peachy Scream. Would you be so kind as to share those challenges with us? I was all excited about the upcoming Shakespeare on Cymbeline Square festival, especially because the event’s official Shakespeare troupe had reservations at my B&B. What I didn’t know until they actually arrived is that their director is my old nemesis, Harry Westcott. We do call a truce for the duration of the troupe’s stay, and he mostly behaves himself, even convincing me to be an extra in the productions. And when one of the actors drops dead in my Shakespeare garden, Harry is the only one who believes my theory that the man was murdered.

Besides running a B&B what do you like to do to relax? Hobbies? I didn’t realize before I opened the place how much time it takes to run a B&B, so I don’t relax all that much. But I do love to read when I can steal a few minutes, plus I enjoy antiquing and will upcycle the occasional piece of battered furniture.

What are a few of your favorites: Music? Beverage? Book? I like most music but am partial to 80s and 90s rock, as well as classical. For beverages, I like coffee, diet soda, white wine, and margaritas (on the rocks with salt). I was partial to mimosas until…well, you’ll see. I read biographies and mysteries. I know I have a dog, but one of my favorite cozy mystery series features a black cat named Hamlet who lives in a Brooklyn bookstore.

Peachy Scream
(Georgia B&B #2)
by Anna Gerard
June 9th 2020

To die or not to die? Georgia B&B proprietor Nina Fleet struts and frets to bring the curtain down on a Shakespearean actor’s killer.

It’s nothing short of inevitable that Cymbeline, GA, hosts an annual Shakespeare festival. But stage-struck Nina Fleet is about to learn that putting on an amateur theatrical production can be murder. Nina’s anticipating showbiz glamour and glitz when a community Shakespearean troupe arrives for a two-week stay at her B&B. But the lights dim when she learns the company’s director is her nemesis, struggling actor Harry Westcott–who still claims to be the rightful heir to Nina’s elegant Queen Anne home.

Meanwhile, the troupe members are not content to leave the drama upon the stage. Accusations of infidelity and financial malfeasance make a shambles of rehearsals. And then, two days into the troupe’s stay, the lead actor is found dead in Nina’s formal Shakespeare garden. Murder most foul!

Worse, it seems every member of the amateur troupe has a motive–including wealthy construction company owner Marvin Jeffers, who seems to have a personal interest in Nina. But when the sheriff arrests the supposed boyfriend of the slain actor’s widow, Nina suspects that the wrong troupe member is in jail. She and her trusty Australian Shepherd, Matilda, join forces (none too happily) with Harry to sleuth out the murder plot.

Will they find the real killer before someone else shuffles off this mortal coil? Find out in Anna Gerard’s delightful second Georgia B&B mystery.
