Interview: Nicole Locke (The Maiden and the Mercenary) ~ #BookTour

Hello and Welcome All!

Today I’m very lucky to be interviewing Nicole Locke author of The Maiden and the Mercenary.

Hi Nicole, thank you for agreeing to this interview.

Please share a few Fun facts about yourself:

  1. I have a dog even though I’m a cat person. Love Winston to pieces, but every once in a while, I have to ask, ‘How did you get in here?’ He reminds me with his goofy grin. Anyone else have a pet they wonder how they got into the house?
  2. If I’m on deadline, my daily diet consists of tea, popcorn, and Haribos. Days could go by, and nobody else better even look at a popcorn kernel or they could lose a finger.
  3. I love to write in restaurants, museums or on trains. Anywhere there are loads of people around me, but no interaction. Cafes aren’t bustling enough, and in Seattle, they’re usually too full of other people at their laptops quietly typing. As you can well imagine, I’m struggling to write at home right now!

Who are your favorite authors? Why?

I’ve been reading nonstop Sci-fi Romance lately. So currently, my favourites are Sax, Dixon, Hackett, Lucas, etc. Why? Because they’re romance!

What types of scenes are your most favorite to write?

Beginnings and Endings. That middle bit is difficult—all of it. There’s just so many ways a person can fall in love. It makes it complicated to capture, and even more so to write. It’s why I’m always incredulous by those people who dismiss romance novels as being trivial. There is nothing more meaningful than Love.

Please share a few Fun facts about the book:

The opening scene will remind you when Indiana Jones runs into Marion at the bar. Biedeluue is very feisty and in the middle of a drinking game. Both the characters are tricksters, so you know there will be loads of antics in their home!

Without revealing too much, what is your favorite scene in the book?

All the scenes in the storage cupboard. I just loved how they used some of the props in there for their escapades.

Using just 5 words, how would you describe the Hero and Heroine’s love affair?

Dangerous, Mischievous, Vulnerable, Trust, Warm…very warm…extremely warm.

Thank you very much for taking the time out of your busy schedule to take part in this interview.

Nicole first discovered romance novels hidden in her grandmother’s closet. Convinced that hidden books must be better, Nicole greedily read them. It was only natural she should start writing them (but now not so secretly).
