2020 End of Year Challenge Wrap Up

Posted on by

It’s the end of 2020…  I can say that I am happy to see 2020 go.  It has been thee worst year.  We saw the COVID-19 pandemic hit; resulting in lockdowns, health and mental issues, and so much more.
As for the blog I really struggled once COVID hit to be engaged and too read or listen to books.  I had so many reading slumps and continue to be stuck in a slump.  I also have seen my reviewing of books stop.  I try, but haven’t written a real review in months.  I do add my initial thoughts on Goodreads, but have no interest to formalize a review.  I just have no interest in reading, reviewing, or blogging these days.  I’m hoping for things to improve in 2021, but I will go with the flow.  As for challenges I started off well and then things died down.  I completed and surpassed all my challenges, but one.

GOODREADS CHALLENGE: First off is the Goodreads Reading Challenge. My goal was 150 books. Same goal as the past two years. I like this number. It doesn’t stress me out and is a reasonable goal for me. I surpassed my goal!

You have read 283 of 150 books in 2020

LIBRARY LOVE: For the Library Love Challenge my goal was Overdrive Junkie 36+. I read/listened to 51 books from my local library. You can check out my full list of reads here. I read a lot of manga this year and re-listened to a few favorites in the Shifters Unbound series by Jennifer Ashely and Pride series by Shelly Laurenston.

NEW RELEASE: For the New Release Challenge my goal was 1-30 books per year (New Release Newbie). I read/listened to 33 new releases. You can check out my full list of new releases read here. My most anticipated reads of 2020 where Sweep with Me by Ilona Andrews, Emerald Blaze by Ilona Andrews and A Siren in the Deep Blue by Kerreyln Sparks. Their where/are more, but I’m behind on my 2020 reading. I also really enjoyed author Lindsay Buroker who is a new to me author.

AUDIOBOOK: For the Audiobook Challenge my goal was Binge Listener (Why read when someone can do it for you) 20-30. I surpassed this goal and moved my goal to Marathoner (Look Ma No Hands) 50+. I listened to 74 audiobooks. You can check out my full list of audiobooks here. Many where re-listens, but I did listen to new stuff. Some of my favorite new listens this year where Southern Spirits series by Angie Fox and Dark Arts and a Daiquiri by Annette Marie.

START ON YOUR SHELF: For the #StartOnYourShelfathon my goal was to read 12 books on my shelf that I’ve not read yet. I read 1 book. You can see my list of books I wanted to read here. The one and only book I did read off my shelf was Born of Darkness by Lara Adrian. I failed at this goal!

REVIEW WRITING: For the Review Writing Challenge my goal was to complete reviews for all the 2019 books I read that I hadn’t finished reviewing. That was a total of 25 books. I completed that goal. You can see a list of books and reviews here.

DISCUSSION: For the Discussion Challenge my goal was Discussion Dabbler 1-10. I did 22 discussions for the year. You check out all my posts here.

  1. Considering the slump you blew your challenges away! Congrats! I am totally feeling the slump. I barely made my GR challenge and didn’t get my audiobook one. I’m also way behind with reviews. I’m determined to make 2021 better. Happy New Year!

    • I started the year off strong and even with the slumps I complete almost all the challenges I signed up for. It’s been an up and down year for me with reading. That’s why 2021 is going to be more laid back and focused on reading/listening to what I like. I’m also hoping I can get back into the reviewing grove. That has totally taken a noise dive. I just get interrupted to many times a day now with everyone home that my flow/grove gets away. We will see. Thank’s for visiting and have a wonderful new year!

  2. I’d say you did amazing for this crazy year and surpassed almost all of your goals.

    • Thank you!

  4. In spite of the hairy year, you did great on the reading and your review challenge. No worries if you need to step away from reviews and low key it on the blog for a bit. Hope your mojo for it all returns. Happy New Year, Angela!

    • I started off strong and got the review challenge out of the way before all the chaos started. I happy with how the year turned out. It could have been better, but for all the struggles I had it was good. I’m hoping for my mojo to return too. I’ve just not been in the mood to blog, read, or do much of anything. I’m tired of being stuck at home and the brief moments out aren’t enough to help bring me back into my mojo. Thank’s for visiting and have a great new year.
