Hello and Welcome Everyone!
Today I’m very lucky to be interviewing Rebecca Hamilton & Miranda Brock authors of The Cursed Key.
Hello Rebecca & Miranda, thank you for agreeing to this interview.
Thanks for having us! We’re excited to be here!
For those readers not familiar with you, would you please tell us a bit about yourselves?
Miranda: I have a passion for the outdoors and country life, I think foxes are the cutest animals on earth, I always eat muffins upside down, and I love riding horses. I also believe a long walk in the forest is just about the best therapy there is.
Rebecca: I’m the type who can’t go too long with nothing to do, so it might not surprise people to learn I have a big family (lots of kids, over a dozen pets) and I’ll always working on something. I also have a heart for community and helping people. Oh, and I love food.
What do you do when you are not writing?
Miranda: I’m usually outside snuggling cats, or goats, or chickens. I love hanging out with our pets. I also really have a passion for art, so when I’m not writing I often get out a sketchbook.
Rebecca: My family and I go hiking a lot. I also like to go kayaking, but we don’t do that nearly as often anymore. When I’m not reading, I’m watching television, usually with my husband or oldest daughter, since we have a similar love of television shows.
Where do you get your ideas?
Miranda: A lot of my ideas come to me from pictures or the scenery around me.
Rebecca: My ideas get me. 😛
What types of scenes are your most favorite to write?
Miranda: Battle scenes. I really enjoy trying to coordinate the moves and direction in my head and put myself in the danger the character is going through. It’s exciting and I love having that adrenaline while writing.
Rebecca: Anything with romantic tension or DANGER. I like to put my characters through hell. I think there’s something healing about that, the idea that even after going through some horrible things, we can survive and even come out the better for it.
If you could swap lives with the heroine of any romance or urban fantasy book, which book would you choose and why?
Miranda: Audrey Lyons in Huntress by Julie Hall. I love her stubborn attitude and willingness to keep fighting for those she loves. She’s tough, but also has a kind heart.
Rebecca: Absidy Jones in SAIL by Lindsey R. Loucks. Not only is this one of my favorite novels of all time (top 5, easy), but I fell in love with the romance story between the pages.
The Cursed Key
Answered by Rebecca
Please summarize the book a la Twitter style for the readers here:
Forced to team up with an ill-tempered shifter, Olivia must reclaim a cursed key before the ancient relic destroys the lives of every creature on earth.
Without revealing too much, what is your favorite scene in the book?
I love the scene where they first meet Renathe. There’s nothing like the mischievousness of the Fae to spice things up, and as one reader pointed out, I “really love my fae nightclubs, don’t I?” Yes. Yes, I do.
Please share a few Fun facts about this book:
This was the first book Miranda and I wrote together, and since finishing book 1, we’ve also finished book 2 and are almost done with book 3. We’ve enjoyed working together so much, we’re planning another trilogy after this one.
It hasn’t just been a writing partnership. We’ve gotten to know each other through working together, and I’d say we’ve gone from authors who appreciate each other’s work, to real friends. Miranda inspires me in so many ways, and I’d do anything in my ability for her as well.
Some things are NOT answered in book one…but are answered in the series. Two big questions we get are: Why does the dark mage want the keys? And what do the keys open? The answers unfold across the trilogy.
How did you ‘get to know’ your main characters? Did they ever surprise you?
I get to know my characters the way I get to know people in real life. The more time I spend with them, the more experiences I go through with them, the better I come to understand them. Usually my characters start off with a personality, but it’s only through writing them that I come to know what makes them tick, and why.
Thank you very much for taking the time out of your busy schedule to take part in this interview.
Thanks for having us!

Genres: New Adult, Romance, Urban Fantasy
Synopsis:
A forgotten past, a dark mage, and an unyielding curse.Another team beat free-spirited archaeologist Olivia Perez to the dig of a lifetime, and now she’s left with the choice to wait for scraps or brave a dangerous, dusty tomb in hopes of finding other priceless artifacts. Her reward? A mysterious key she has no idea is cursed. Soon, Olivia realizes she’s brought home more than just an ancient rarity.
Malevolent visions begin to plague her. Unnerved by what they reveal, she casts away the key…unknowingly placing it into the waiting hands of a dark mage bent on destruction. Only when a shifter agent from the Paranormal Intelligence and Tracking Organization arrives searching for the key does Olivia realize what a huge mistake she’s made.
Forced to team up with the ill-tempered shifter, her journey to reclaim the cursed key leads down a twisting path of dark histories, dangerous magic, and deadly obstacles. But Olivia’s efforts to take back the ancient relic before the dark mage can destroy the lives of humans, shifters, witches, and fae alike are thwarted by her own dark past…and a price steeper than what she’s willing to pay.

From an early age Miranda Brock has always loved fantasy and adventure everything. Since she doesn’t live in a world of enchanting powers, mythical beasts, and things unbelievable she has decided to write about them. (Although, if you happen to see a dragon flying around, do tell her.) Born in southern Illinois, where she still resides with her husband and two children, she grew up running through the woods, playing in creeks, and riding horses. What started out as writing poetry grew into short stories and eventually led to her first novel, Souls Discovered. Miranda lives in the country where she finds inspiration in the simplicity and beauty around her. With the help of a ridiculous amount of coffee and some good music she writes whenever she gets a chance.

This is the game we play in Arkansas during the winter. Is it going to snow? Is it going to rain? Is it going to ice? That is the game we have been playing all day today
