After a black witch pitched a hissy fit in Hollis Apothecary, Rue got stuck cleaning up his mess. That was the easy part. Repairing the damage he inflicted on Camber and Arden? That makes Rue wish she could bring him back to life just to kill him again. Slower this time.

While Rue is setting her new life back to rights, Clay and Asa are off working a case, but it soon becomes clear that they’ll need her help to catch the vicious creature preying on locals in a small Tennessee town. She’s got her hands full at home, but Rue has no choice. She must report for duty to honor her agreement with the director. Or else.

What she discovers leads her deeper down the rabbit hole of Black Hat Bureau corruption and promises that, no matter how grim the past few weeks have been, the worst is yet to come.

Black Arts, White Craft is book two in the Black Hat Bureau by Hailey Edwards and narrated by Stephanie Richardson.

It’s important to listen/read this series in order. Rue has a dark past and is hiding from the agency. There is great buildup, a wonderful overall story arc, and fabulous character dynamics. Each novel builds and we learn more about Rue and her companions.

We return after a week to find Rue getting her life back in order, but Clay, her old partner, comes knocking on her door for help. Her, Clay, and Asa soon discover something fiendish is happening.

I just love the buildup, escalating danger, battles, and the case. The author has a way of pulling you in and building that intense interest. The case is not as straight forward and they soon learn that whoever is behind the zombies is interested in something from the last case.

I love the unique characters and the storyline about Rue and her past. I can’t wait to dig deeper and see what’s next for her. The dynamics between Clay, Ash, Colby, and Rue are fun and delightful.

The romance between Asa and Rue continues. We learn why Asa and his demon are drawn to Rue. It’s an interesting mating dance.

Audio: Stephanie Richardson does a fabulous job capturing the characters personalities and tone. She keeps you invested in the outcome of the characters and storyline. I plan to continue listening to this series.

Black Arts, White Craft is an energetic, magnetic, and action-packed listen. Fans of paranormal romance and urban fantasy will enjoy disappearing into this unique world and getting to know its spunky characters.
