Today I’m very lucky to be interviewing Sky Gold author of Stars At Dusk.

Hi Sky, thank you for agreeing to this interview.

How did you choose the genre you write in?

I’ve loved the sci-fi and paranormal romance genre for a long time because it explores themes beyond our everyday normal human interaction – and takes you to places new and exciting.

 

Is there any particular author or book that influenced you in any way wither growing up or as an adult?

The books I’ve loved in the past include:

• All of Kristen Ashley’s contemporary romance books
• All of Zoey Draven’s scifi books
• Leviathan Falls by James S. A. Corey (and the entire Expanse series)

 

 

What are some books you have enjoyed recently?

• Wrecking Ball by P. Dangelico

• All Rhodes Lead Here by Mariana Zapata

• Pirate Bound by Carysa Locke

• Emerald Blaze by Ilona Andrews

• A Kingdom of Flesh and Fire by Jennifer L. Armentrout

Please share the opening lines of this book:

Kage, at 15

The rains were back.

He felt the droplets against his skin, washing away the black paint that streaked his cheeks and his forehead, masking out all light, turning him into a shadow. He turned his face to the ground, trying to keep the colour from getting wet. If he didn’t, the Beast would be greatly displeased.

He pressed deeper into the ground, into the long grass, the sound of the pounding downpour thundering around him, coating his backside and bare feet in thick mud. His weapon lay under him, cutting into his thin ribs, but he dared not move it away lest the demon he loathed accuse him of not caring for his gear.

He heard a rustle nearby. Was Bastian still breathing? Or had the showers claimed him, washing his soul away?

For a moment, Kage wanted to cry out, to rise to his feet and charge the line, just like Bastian had. So he, too, could sacrifice his soul to the rain.

How did you ‘get to know’ your main characters?

I listen to music, I get inspired by words, I chat with my girlfriends, I watch a lot of great drama and read many books, and I pull insights from my own loving and sometimes grumpy alpha husbeast – AKA my husband, who resembles so many of these men!

 

Did they ever surprise you?

Absolutely. Kage Sable took a life all of his own – he has his own cadence, language, style and characterisations. He’s also had many challenges to overcome, and because he has worked on himself, he’d able to help guide Harlow towards her own healing – which is what great couples do for each other. He’s a committed, talented and deeply loyal friend and boyfriend – simply a gorgeous, smart man with moxie, inside and out.
