TMST: Books or Series I’m Finally Going To Try

Posted on by

Tell Me Something Tuesday hosted by Rainy Day Ramblings.

What books or series that are languishing in your TBR are you finally going to try this year?

Oh man!! Their are a lot of books and series on my TBR that I’ve delayed for one reason or another. I have several books/series that I want to try, but I also have several I need to finish or get caught up on; before I start more new stuff. This year (2018) is going to be the year of working through older titles, the books I bought/own, and borrowing from my library (Library Love Challenge).

As for those pesky books/series I’m going to try this year.
Take a look below at a few I really really want to get too in 2018
.

Sinner’s Tribe Motorcycle Club Series – I’ve had my eye on Sarah Castille’s books for a while. I’ve been wanting to try out her MC for some time now, but just haven’t picked them up.

From New York Times bestselling author Sarah Castille comes Rough Justice, a scorching new series featuring red-hot, hard-riding bikers and the women who can’t help but love them…

Elemental Assassin Series – I haven’t started this series, but I’ve had my eye on it for years. Several bloggers have enjoyed this series. I like the elements described in the blurb’s and the covers are cool. For those that have tried the series, should I read or try the audio??

After Gin’s family was murdered by a Fire elemental when she was thirteen, she lived on the streets and eventually became an assassin to survive. Now, Gin is given an assignment by her handler to rub out an Ashland businessman, but it turns out to be a trap. After Gin’s handler is brutally murdered, she teams up with the sexy detective investigating the case to figure out who double-crossed her and why. Only one thing is for sure —Gin has no qualms about killing her way to the top of the conspiracy.

Shelby Nichols Adventure Series – The first time I saw a cover for this series I was hooked. I’ve had my eye on this series since I had Ms. Helme on the blog showcasing Devious Minds; along with a character bio for Alejandro Ramos. I snagged Book 1, Carrots for free when it was offered and got lucky to pick up the audio for free too, when a special was going with Audible. I just haven’t gotten around to trying this series, but I want too. It’s a cozy mystery with supernatural elements in it. That sounds cool and I love the covers for all the books.

Shelby’s life changes when she stops at the grocery store for some carrots. During a bank robbery, she is caught in the cross-fire and grazed by a bullet to the head, leaving her with the ability to read people’s minds. Not only is she hearing what everyone thinks about her, but the gunman who shot her is out to silence her forever. In her fight to stay alive she is saved from certain death by a handsome hit-man with ties to organized crime. This pulls Shelby even deeper into danger, where knowing someone’s thoughts can not only hurt her feelings, but get her killed.

Silence Fallen – I had pre-ordered this title, so I had it on release day, but never read it. I think I’m delaying; because their have been so many mixed reviews on this title in the Mercy Thompson series and I’m a fan of Mercy. I LOVE Mercy.

Dead Heat – Ya, I need to get to this one since Burn Bright is coming March 2018. I wish my library had the audiobook for it, but they don’t, so I’ll have to pick up the book and read it or buy the audiobook if I want to do audio. Anyone have this in Audible that wants to loan it out?

Into the Fire – Yep, I also had this one on release day since I pre-order it, but still haven’t read it. It’s the last book in the Night Prince series. I seam to delay those last to near last books in a series. Who really wants their favorites to come to an end?

Tempted & Taken – Another one I pre-ordered and had on release day. Now this one I’ll be getting to soon. No worries on it. Just didn’t get to it near release; because of the holidays.

Need To Finish Series

Chicagoland Vampires Series – I’ve got one to read in this series, the last book, and then I’ll have finished it. I want to try the new series Heirs of Chicagoland that’s coming in July 2018, so I have a few months to finish the series; before the new series starts.

I also need to finish The Dresden Files & Charley Davidson series’s that I started in 2017.

What books or series are you finally going to try this year?
I’d love to hear from you!

  1. I’m always too nervous to start a series unless it’s completed and I have all the copies, haha. I tend to binge read series because I can’t seem to wait and many a times, I forget the setting if I read the first book and the second one will come out after a year 😀

Hope you enjoy all the ones you’re picking up!

    • Thank’s Fanna. I do enjoy series books and I know hoe you feel. Waiting a year can be hard, but most of the time it’s well worthing it, but I do like series that are completed and I can bing too. ^_^

  2. A lot of these series are the super LONG ones that I’m always scared to start. 🙂 I can barely finish a trilogy!

    • Ya, a lot of series I have on my TBR that I’ve been wanting to try are long. It is scary to dive into a long series and invest that time. Thank’s for visiting, Nicole.

  3. Oh I only have series that I need to finish haha To many to even mention. 😉 It is great to make a goal out of it though. I made one to finish the series of which I own the book or that I can get from the library. Hopefully I’ll finally finish some of them.

ps: I tried to leave a comment on the library love challenge sign-up as I just linked up but I could not find a comment box there like here. 🙂

    • Hi Annemieke, Thank’s for visiting. As for the library love comment. Don’t worry. Once my posts are over 30days the comment section closes. That saves me from getting spammers.
As for this post: Well your goals are great. I use my library as much as possible to borrow books. It’s my first source before I look elsewhere.

  4. I have Elemental Assassin on my list and I need to finish the Chloe Neill series too. I would love to start the Jim Butcher series, but I am too bogged down right now.

    • It’s a new year and I already feel bogged down. Just so many book Is want to read or try out. I’m trying to get them organized and work my way through them. Thank’s for sharing what you want to read and visiting.

  5. Hi Angela, I think the Elemental Assassin is better if you read it cause you can just fly through them and not let the narration slow you down. I also would like to start on Unraveled and a few others I missed to get all caught up.

    • Thank’s for your suggestion on Elemental Assassin. I hope you enjoy Unraveled and the others you want to read. Thank’s for visiting.

  6. I just remembered my brother’s have all of the Dresden Files. I need to get on that.

    • It’s quite instating. First male author I’ve read and lead male character. I’m enjoying. Hope you do too.

  7. I need to start the Dresden Files! I haven’t focused on series to read this year. If I want to I’ll just finish the vast amount of series I have like one book left. Idk why I do that to myself.

    • I’ve started to so many series, that I need to figure out which ones I really want to finish. ^_^ Just so many wonderful books to dive into. Dresden Files is fun. Hope you enjoy.

  8. I haven’t heard of many of these authors! I think I’d like the Mercy Thompson series.

    • Mercy is AMAZING. I just love her and the world. Briggs is a wonderful author to read. Thank’s Dianna for stopping in.

  9. Wow. We are focusing on a lot of the same series and authors. I plan to work on them too. I have books on my Kindle and stacked on the shelves begging me to start them. I’ve already finished the last three in one series and starting on another. It feels so good when I can cross something off my list!

    • That’s great. I love that feeling of accomplishment and crossing things off the list.

  10. Oh I want to read that Rhenna Morgan series. I have heard good things. And that Sarah Castille series has been on my radar since I discovered her (I have been reading her mafia series and love it!)

    • I have all of Castille’s works on my TBR. They all look great. One day. I LOVE Rhenna Morgan’s series. OMG Not many CR’s win me over, but boy oh boy I could read them over and over again. ^_^

  11. into the fire was awesome!!!! vlad is one of my top all time hot vamp boyfriends!!! shared on all my socials!!

    • Vlad is sexy ^_^. Thank’s for sharing and visiting.

  12. I <3333 the Elemental Assassin series! Hope you enjoy it!

    • I hope I enjoy too. ^_^

  13. oh darling you have such a great list of books to try. And some of them I have LOVED so much. I actually think you will love Into the Fire, I was not wanting to read that one either because I have loved Vlad and Leila. I think a bit more than Bones and Cat, because their relationship just sings so uniquely with me.

The series I plan on working on this year that have been on my TBR for a long while are:
Nine Kingdoms by Lynn Kurland ( I have read all her time travel and historical but need to try her fantasy)
    Spymasters by Joanna Bourne
Some more of Connie Mason’s backlist that I haven’t picked up.
Warriors of Poseidon by Alyssa Day–I have read the first half of the series but want to continue these books.

    • Great picks for series to try this year. Thank’s for sharing.
I’m sure I’ll love Vlad and Leila. I feel in love with them on the very first book, it’s just sad it’s the last one in the series. ^_^

  14. I have read the last book Into The Fire. It was very good and I hated for it to end!! I have been eyeing the Elemental series as well just have not had the courage to do so yet. Patricia Briggs you can never go wrong with her books. I love them! Let me know what you think of the elemental series. I’m dying to get your opinion. Chicagoland, I finished all those and the last book will tell you of a spinoff that I’m very much waiting for!! You will see what I mean when reading it. I do however have the first book in the Cross Breed Novel. I just have to finish a few others first before I start that series. The author is new to me.

    • Oh if you have Cross Breed (Breeds #33) by Lora Leigh you should most defiantly read Elizabeth’s Wolf first where Cassie is introduced as an eight year old. She does show up in other books in the Breed series, but I LOVE Elizabeth’s Wolf. I wish all the Breed books where out for purchase, but many of the older titles are not at this time. I was lucky to find the series at my library on the online selection. As for Into The Fire. I LOVE Vlad and I love the world Ms. Frost created. It’s just sad when a series or beloved characters stories come to an end. I’ll get to it this year. It’s a must. And, Briggs I can never go wrong. Mercy is the boom. Thank’s for visiting and sharing your books/series you want to try this year.

  15. For the Elemental Series, I recommend listening. I started out reading but once I tried the audio I was hooked on it. I actually think I have Dead Heat. If I figure out how to lend it, I’ll send it to you, just let me know when. I think there is a time limit on those or something isn’t there? I ALSO have not read Into The Fire even though it was preordered and I had it on release day. I have several series I want to focus on finishing or catching up on this year. Like the Night Prince, BDB, and the BDB Legacy. I know there are more I’m behind on, but that’s the problem, I’ve forgotten! LOL I’m binging on Dannika Dark right now, and her Crossbreed and Seven series are next on my audio list.

    • I’ve never done an Audible loan before, so I’m not sure how it works. If it’s like the kindle leading where you get to borrow it for 14days then it gets returned. I’d most defiantly love to borrow it. I’d say maybe in Feb. This month (Jan.) I’m trying to read those ARC’s I’ve got that I couldn’t get to around the Holidays. Thank’s for letting me know you loved the audios for Elemental Series. I’ll have to see if my library has them in audio. I hope so. I find some books are better in audio then actually reading them. So, I appreciate the recommendation on that series. I’ve caught your reviews for the Seven series. Dannika Dark is one I want to try too. I have book one on kindle for Crossbreed and my library has the audiobook. Just so many series to try, books to read and series to finish up.
Thank’s for visiting and I’ll hit you up for that audio loan on Dead Heat. ^_^

  16. I need to resemble this post soon. I have a shelf of firstbin the series I want to read. Now some are just Kindle freebie romances but some are books I seriously want to read and have even purchased. In 2016 I did a great job of reading new series. In 2017 I spent more time keeping up with all the ones I’m already reading. Two series I am listening, catching up and ending up buying are the Harry Dresden books by Jim Butcher. And the Assassins Apprentice books ( multiple trilogies) by Robin Hobb I LOVE them. But I have well loved series I have never read like the Fever series by Karen Mohning(?). And the October Day series by Seamans McGuire. Of course there are many more I have a shocking 256 books in my series1 shelf which is for the first in a series. Sigh.

    • I started reading Harry Dresden then switched to Audio. I love the Audiobooks for the Dresden series. I still have many more in that one to get too, since I just started it in 2017. The Assassins Apprentice sounds interesting. I’ll have to look into that one. I know what you mean so many books and series to try. I need to get organized and see which series I need to get caught up on and so on. Last year I read way more new releases, but this year I want to focus on older titles, books I own and getting caught up on many series I started. Thank’s for visiting and sharing Northwoman. ^_^
