Interview: Lena Gregory (With a Spirit of Vengeance) ~ #BookTour

Hello and Welcome All!

Today I’m very lucky to be interviewing Lena Gregory author of With A Spirit of Vengeance.

Hi Lena, thank you for agreeing to this interview.

Thank you so much for having me!

For those readers not familiar with you, would you please tell us a bit about yourself?

I grew up in a small town on the south shore of Eastern Long Island, much like the ones I write about, but I recently traded in cold, damp, gray winters for the warmth and sunshine of Central Florida. I live with my husband, daughter and son-in-law, two sons, and four dogs. In addition to the four cozy mystery series’ I’m currently writing, I also write inspirational romantic suspense, work as a freelance editor, and homeschool my eleven-year-old son. In my spare time, which is rare, I enjoy spending time with my family, walking, and reading.

How did you choose the genre you write in?

I actually began writing sweet romance, which was difficult to sell at that time. My agent suggested I try writing cozies, so I gave it a shot, and I absolutely love it.

What do you do when you are not writing?

I homeschool my eleven-year-old, which I love! I’m also helping my twenty-three-year-old son, who is on the autistic spectrum, to plot his own children’s book. I enjoy walking with my kids. Since moving to Florida, we often come across wildlife while we walk, and I enjoy taking pictures. Some of the critters are exciting to see. Others, like snakes, spiders, and alligators, not so much! Gia’s (from the All-Day Breakfast Café series) fears of Florida’s critters stem from some of my own. I’ve been trying for three years to get a picture of the hummingbirds in my yard, but I can never seem to get one.

What are some books you have enjoyed recently?

Most recently, I’ve enjoyed Murder Wears a Little Black Dress by Debra Sennefelder, The Secret Book and Scone Society by Ellery Adams, J.D. Robb’s In Death series, and Of Blood and Bone by Nora Roberts.

Tell us a few Fun Facts about your upcoming book?

With a Spirit of Vengeance is actually a continuation of Ophelia’s story from A Spirit Seeks Asylum. Twin Forks Psychiatric Center, where both stories center around, is based on the King’s Park Psychiatric Center on Long Island. My daughter used to play soccer right near there sometimes, and the buildings have always fascinated me. Bee is very instrumental this time in helping solve the mystery.

Give us an insight into your main character. What does he/she do that is so special?

Cass Donovan runs a psychic shop on Bay Island’s boardwalk. She left her psychiatric practice in New York City to return to her childhood home after a series of tragedies and never returned. At first, Cass believed her ability to “read” people was based on her training and intuition. It was only later she came to realize the dead could actually speak to her. But I believe the most special thing about Cass is her incredibly close friendships with Bee and Stephanie.

What was your favorite chapter (or part) to write and why?

I think my favorite chapter to write in this one is the altercation between Bee and Sam. With the two of them going at it, Beast (Cass’s Leonberger) freaking out, and her trying to control him and get help, it was total chaos. Very fun to write. Plus, Bee coming to Cass’s defense is always fun to write.

Readers should read this book… if they enjoy a fun paranormal mystery with strong friendships and a hint of romance.

Thank you very much for taking the time out of your busy schedule to take part in this interview.

Thank you so much for inviting me! I’ve enjoyed visiting.

(A Bay Island Psychic Mystery)
Paranormal Cozy Mystery
7th in Series
Setting – Bay Island (Just off Long Island, New York)

Psychic Cass Donovan must uncover the truth about long-buried secrets and recent murders to bring peace to a troubled spirit and bring justice to a flesh-and-blood killer . . .

When the spirit of Ophelia Wilson turned to clairvoyant Cass Donovan for help, Cass was able to prove Ophelia’s innocence in the century-old murders of her family members—and solve a contemporary murder in the process. But Ophelia’s spirit has returned, this time angrily demanding that Cass expose the identity of whoever did kill her family. And then eerily, two descendants from the Wilson family tree are murdered, suggesting that Ophelia has the power to meddle in modern-day events to satisfy her rage.

As Cass struggles to solve the two recent murders and unravel the sparse clues about murders from a hundred years ago, she and those around her begin to suffer Ophelia’s wrath—including an attempt on the life of one of Cass’s closest friends. Relying on all of her own psychic powers, Cass has to confront the spirit’s hunger for vengeance and track down a merciless killer before she becomes the next victim of both . . .
