Veiled in Darkness
Eternally Mated, #2

The story continues…
When Eli spots Ashley across a bloody battlefield, he can only steal a moment alone with her. Powerless is an emotion new to the hunter, but it’s one he faces daily when he realizes killing the demon king in order to free his mate is out of the question.
‘Death’ was not a nickname Ashley wished to carry. Being the only one able to stop Lucifer’s evil plan was an even worse fate. When she discovers her true ancestry, fear that she will succumb to her darker side forces her to dig deep for the strength she needs to fight.
The clock is ticking and soon Ashley will face the ultimate test.
Veiled in Darkness takes place a month after the events in Fall Into Darkness. We continue the tragic story of Eli and Ashley as they try to find a way to save those that need saving, find a way to free Ashely from her contract to Lucifer, and in the end finally be together as mates where meant to be.
This was a whirlwind adventure with several surprises along the way. The plot is crazy and the characters are dynamic. This story is more about Ashley, her learning what her true purpose is, and also coming into her own. Some of the surprising twists we learning had me floored. One was who the Maker is and the other is Ashely’s heritage. I don’t want to spoil the adventure on these points, so I wont say anymore. I also very much enjoyed several of the secondary characters. We meet a hellhound who is amusing, a demon that’s interesting, and more Angel’s.
What I Didn’t like
At times I felt that the characters needed to talk mind to mind, instead of out loud. Some of the things they share are sensitive secrets and to say them out in the open, especially in Hell. I felt like someone would or could have learned of these things. At times the author had her characters talking mind to mind during sensitive information, but at other times they didn’t. Not consistent on this aspect.
At one point an army invades. The characters are making a big deal out of this and in a hurry to stop and find out Lucifer’s plans. Ashely is needed to do her thing, but instead of rushing off to stop this invasion as mentioned, her and Eli get it on; before she goes off to war. What bugged me is lives are being lost, the characters made a point in saying she is needed quickly, and this is her destiny, but she first has to stop and have sex with her mate.
Throughout the book we have all this build up for an ending battle. Then the time comes and it was anti-climactic, even the heroine mentioned this. I was expecting a battle scene and we get nothing.
Veiled in Darkness has a lot to enjoy. It’s a fast-paced, exciting, and engaging read. This book wraps up Ashley and Elle’s story, but it’s not over. The author gave her readers a teaser of what is to come and I have to say it has me intrigued.
