The Calendar Book Tag

Found this tag on Life of a Female Bibliophile and she found it on Cat on the Bookshelf. It’s creator is Momo from The Booktube Girl.

January: New Years – Name a new release coming out this year that you are greatly anticipating.

These three are my most anticipated for 2020.  I love the Andrews team and Briggs is just amazing.  Now, I can read the Innkeeper on their website, but I love to wait for the full edited novel to come out.  A chapter a week sounds great, but nope I want the full story all at once.

February: Leap Year – Name a book or series that you would like to skip and refuse to read.

The King by J.R. Ward. In 2014 I was all about BDB and had pre-ordered The King, but then I caught some twitter feed SPOILERS on it and when I found out about one of my favorite couples, well I was sad.  Ward made her Vampires be all about their True Mates, love, cherish, etc..  Then I heard there where issues and she was going to give them another book to fix what happened and well I haven’t been able to make myself pick up a BDB book.  I still love the early books with the main BDB characters.

Fifty Shades of Grey by E.L. James. Everyone was all about the Fifty Shades series when it came out.  I never got into the hip and never watched the movies.  I have no desire to pick up this book or any book in the series.

March: St. Patrick’s Day – Favorite book set in the countryside or a rural area.

As most of you know, those that follow me, I’m not big on Contemporary Romance and that is the genre you can mainly find rural or countryside areas.  Maybe in Historical Romances too.  I just have a hard time getting into CR stories and staying interested in the characters.  Thou one of my favorite series is by Gena Showalter – The Original Heartbreakers series.  I fell in love with this series from the novella and had to listen to the series.  Strawberry Valley gave me that sweet home town feel.  Another series I very much enjoyed and found that sweet hometown feel was Gold Valley by Maisey Yates.

April: April Fool’s – Name a book that had a story that tricked you into thinking it was going in one direction but ended up going in a completely different one.

To be honest I can’t think of a book.  I’ve been trying, but nothing is coming to mind.

May: Mother’s Day – Name a book that is always there for you, that you love and that lightens the mood when you’re feeling down.

The Pride series by Shelly Laurenston or The Dragon Kin series by G.A. Aiken.  G.A. & Shelly are the same person. Both series have these over the top characters and humor that makes me laugh, lighting my mood, and feel better.  These two series are my go to when I’m feeling down or in a book slump.

June: Summer Solstice – Name a book that felt like it took forever to read.

Pure Heat by M.L, Buchman.  I will admit I was lured in by the cover and blurb.  This author at the time was new to me.  I started Pure Heat; before the Holidays (2017) and it took me forever, into the New Year (2018), to finish this book.  My reading time was very limited, but even with that I almost didn’t make it through the book.  I think that had I been in my reading grove I probably would have DNF’d.  It wasn’t that it was bad, there where things I enjoyed, but I had trouble staying interested and focused.

Unbroken Cowboy by Maisey Yates.  I started this in Nov. 2019 and didn’t finish until mid-Dec. 2019.  I’ve loved the previous four books in this series, but this one was not what I wanted.  I just couldn’t stay connected or interested in this one.   It just lacked the adult vibe for me and so, it took me longer to get through.

July: Independence Day – Name a strong and independent character that inspired you.

I’ve got three: Mercy Thompson, Kate Daniels, and Gin Blanko.  Each are very independent women with strong work ethics, brains that they use, and kick-ass attitudes.  Besides being kick-ass they have some of the same issues and struggles that almost all women have. This makes them all relatable, likable, and inspiring.

Mercy is a mechanic. A job that is dominated by men.
Kate souks up knowledge like a sponge.
Gin besides being an assassin, she can cook.

August: No Holidays – If you could create a holiday that in some way concerned books, what would it be?

Leap into Books Day – Have it fall in March.

September: 9/11 Remembrance Day – What is a book that had a huge impact on you, one that you will always remember?

This question is tough for me.  I read Paranormal Romance and Urban Fantasy.  Nothing is coming to mind.

October: Halloween – What is your favorite mystery or horror book?

I don’t read horror, but I have been diving into cozy mysteries. I don’t know if I have a favorite, but here are the three series I’ve enjoyed. Vampire Knitting Club, The Perfectly Proper Paranormal Museum, & Beechwood Harbor Magic Mystery

November: Thanksgiving – What series are you most thankful exists?
